Music Quote Quiz
It’s been a while since we had one of these.
The rules are simple. Googling is cheating. Reading others’ comments before answering is cheating.
Whoever gets the most correct answers gets a virtual pat on the head from me.
1
And she passes the time at another man’s side
I pass the time with my pride2
Into the crucifix night
The storm of a cross3
But my dreams are for dreaming
And best left that way4
And there are days, she said
The sunlight through the trees
Feels like my own creation5
I got drunk with your brother
And we caught Jon Brion’s set6
Droogie don’t crash here7
I’d steal all the microphones
From all the masters of ceremony8
A pretty girl to love me
With the same last name as mine9
If there’s work to be done
There’s these two strong hands10
Kept my heart in dark ruins
Good luck!
UPDATE: The feedback I’m getting is that this is too hard. Fine; I’ll make it easier next time.
Still, if you listen to what I listen to, you’d get ‘em.
UPDATE x2: OK, this one is easier.

I take an early lead with zero for ten.

Perfect Sense:
Sorry, pally; I’ve just pulled into a tie.

Patterico:
I think you only listen to two types of music:
Music composed 200 years ago;
Music composed two weeks ago.
Anything in between falls into a black hole…

Maybe that should read whover gets a correct answer….

Thought I was gonna win by having the lowest score. RATS!
Not fair, an esoteric music quote quiz on a Friday in Lent. Well on second thought, that’s just one more disappointment today. Yay!
Comment by no one you know — 2/15/2008 @ 4:59 am
I’m not convinced these are real songs…
Comment by Scott Jacobs — 2/15/2008 @ 5:01 am
All songs by Patterico, copyright 2008….
I win….

Longtime reader, first-time commenter, but because I know one, and no one else has any yet, I figured, what the heck.
#6: Suffragette City, by David Bowie. Wham, bam, thank you, Patterico.
Comment by Chris — 2/15/2008 @ 7:46 am
I feel very lame…I only got “Droogies don’t crash here” from “Suffragette City”
Comment by driver — 2/15/2008 @ 7:53 am
I think you need to “re-center” this test, as they did with the SATs a while back, so as to achieve a more self-reinforcing outcome.
Comment by driver — 2/15/2008 @ 7:56 am
I’m about 70% certain #1 is off an Eagles song, but I can’t come up with it.
Comment by Jim Hall — 2/15/2008 @ 8:05 am
Wow, Pat. Did the wife come up with these?
1. “Saturday Night,” Eagles
6. “Suffragette City,” Bowie
Other than those, I got nuthin’.
Comment by CraigC — 2/15/2008 @ 8:15 am
Does zero count for anything?
Comment by Bar Sinister — 2/15/2008 @ 8:29 am
I forgot my bonus points. As tough as this one is, it might make a difference.
1. Desperado, one of my all-time favorite records.
2. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust.
Comment by CraigC — 2/15/2008 @ 8:36 am
Hmm. I wonder if I should subtract anything for wrong answers. ‘Cause you got one wrong, CraigC.
OK, OK, next time I’ll do an easier one.
Comment by Patterico — 2/15/2008 @ 8:56 am
What did I get wrong?
Comment by CraigC — 2/15/2008 @ 9:02 am
You didn’t get anything wrong. I got confused by your numbering. I was relating it to my numbers, whereas you were relating it to your answers.
I got it now.
Comment by Patterico — 2/15/2008 @ 9:13 am
All I got was Suffragette City. Wow. And I thought I did listen to some of the stuff you did.
Comment by carlitos — 2/15/2008 @ 9:26 am
#7 is They Might Be Giants? One of the older albums, I think the song is ‘if I wasn’t shy’.
Comment by Jared — 2/15/2008 @ 9:52 am
#9 is a Glen Phillips song, but the title isn’t coming to me.
Comment by aphrael — 2/15/2008 @ 9:59 am
You guys are getting them.
Comment by Patterico — 2/15/2008 @ 10:01 am
#5 Is P. Hux “Yet To Say” I think.
Your a power pop fool!!!
Comment by Rich Horton — 2/15/2008 @ 10:28 am
Hey do I win for coming up with the most obscure answer?
Comment by Rich Horton — 2/15/2008 @ 11:17 am
Rich:
The P. Hux is impressive. I’m pretty sure that can’t even be Googled.
Dafydd:
There’s at least one of these from the mid ’70’s that you really ought to get.
Comment by Patterico — 2/15/2008 @ 11:44 am
Kiss The Monster is in heavy rotation at my house these days.
Hey if you like to try your luck you’ve inspired me to post my own quiz. I’m guessing you will come up with 6 or 7 at least.
Comment by Rich Horton — 2/15/2008 @ 11:54 am
I miss DRJ.
Comment by nk — 2/15/2008 @ 12:13 pm
Me too!
I’m trying to get her back this weekend.
Comment by Patterico — 2/15/2008 @ 12:25 pm
Tell her I miss her too…..we tight.
Comment by driver — 2/15/2008 @ 12:47 pm
Only one I knew was the first one. “Saturday Night” by the Eagles. It’s on the Desperado album, which I learned to play all the way through when I was in college.
