L.A. Times Corrects Clinton Misquote Pointed Out Here

The L.A. Times today has this correction on their corrections page:

Super Tuesday: An article in Wednesday’s Section A about Democratic presidential nominating contests misquoted Hillary Rodham Clinton as saying, “I want to congratulate Sen. Obama on his victory tonight.” She said “victories,” not “victory.”

  1. By the way, I normally can find a direct link to a correction, but this time I can’t. Have they disabled that feature?

This didn’t seem worth bringing up in the post, but it still bothers me a little.

  2. I’ll wait until they correct their misquoting Bush before I’m impressed. It’s like the firing of Shuster.

  3. Either the LA Times disabled the feature, or it went buggy and they haven’t paid attention.

BTW, here’s a treat for you — our LAT sock puppeteer friend and former columnist, in a podcast ranting against you and those other right-wing bloggers. Click here to download the podcast. (4.5 MB)

  5. Maybe the LA Times should consider a column (and link) for corrections pointed out by Patterico.

  6. Patterico, I wonder how many darts are now in your pix on the newsroom wall?

  7. Another Drew: My guess would be battle-axes, not darts.

  8. Maybe the Shuster dust-up put the fear of Godsomething into them.

  9. Don’t blame me, the live preview showed the strikeout through “God”.

  10. Never mind. Found the link.

  11. Bradley,

That thing is really old. Where did you find it?

  12. Brad’s link to Hiltzik’s podcast is amazing. I heartily recommend it.

I learned a lot. Patrick always treats everything from GWB as total truth, and has done lots of posts on how Tom DeLay is teh awesome and cannot be sensibly criticized for anything.

I learned of the conservative bloggers’ view that criticism of the president should not be subject to freedom of speech rules. (I bet he read that right here! I’m pretty sure Patterico’s official position is that Democrats shouldn’t be allowed to speak.)

Listening to this, though, does give the left an out: Hiltzik doesn’t sound like his issue is his politics in that podcast. His problem sounds like he’s got some degree of mental illness.

I was digging around the LAT’s Web site, trying to find what Hiltzik was up to. I found the podcast section, and found this page

Looking through them, I found “Fog in the Blogs,” which struck a chord in my neurons. And I downloaded it.

The LAT tried to eliminate all evidence of Hiltzik’s blog and column, but forgot the podcast. I wonder how long before they yank it?

BTW, notice the title of the podcast. As it runs in Windows Media player, it’s not “Golden State”, but “Golden Partisan”. Was that a reference to the subject matter, or to Hiltzik?

  14. Some other Hiltzik goodies are available on the Wayback Machine.

The memory hole is never deep enough on the Internet!

And in a profile just before his blog was suspended, Hiltzik reveals just that his foray into politics on his blog was no accident.

Well, the column is supposed to be oriented for California business and economy, California issues. And although I’m always sort of probing the outside of that envelope, I have a lot of interests that aren’t necessarily pure business. I was looking for a way to talk about politics, culture.
