12 years ago I was in the same position. I wrote in Phil Gramm's name even though he'd been out for months by the time TX had their primary. But then again the nomination had already been decided and the vote was a mere formality.

NeoconNews -

Fred WAS in it to win it, but he wasn't DESPERATE to win it. The fact that it wasn't the most important thing in his life is NOT synonymous with the notion that he "wasn't in it to win it". That is the entire point of Ferguson's article. I suggest that you read it again.

Ferguson's article is indeed terrific, especially the depiction of life on the retail politics circuit.

I got behind Fred, and I've still got plenty of Fred goodness on my site, but you've got to bite the bullet for Romney. Fred wasn't in it to win it. McCain unfortunately is.

Robin,

If you have a "clear preference" of the two RINO's then you haven't done enough studying;

Now, on the other hand, if you had said "I'll hold my nose and vote for Romney just to keep Juan McCain out of our White House"...this I can fully understand and agree with.

If he was still running, I'd agree with you. I had been planning to vote for Thompson this Tuesday.

However, I'm not going to vote for someone who's officially not in the race -- not when I have a clear preference between the two frontrunners. Between McCain and Romney, I know who I'd rather see get the Republican nomination -- so if I voted for someone not running, and my least-favorite guy ended up getting the nomination, I'd feel really stupid.
