John McCain’s National Hispanic Outreach Director

[Guest post by DRJ]

Michelle Malkin has the story:

“Juan Hernandez is GOP presidential candidate John McCain’s Hispanic Outreach Director. He is, as my Nevada reader wrote, a sovereignty-undermining extremist who “whose views and interests are so clearly anti-security and not in the interest of the American people or for that matter us legal Hispanic immigrants.”

I repeat: Geraldo Rivera Republican John McCain has learned nothing from the shamnesty debacle.”

Bryan at Hot Air adds this:

“Of Mexicans who move to the US, Hernandez has said:

“I want the third generation, the seventh generation, I want them all to think ‘Mexico first.’”

These are Americans that Hernandez is talking about. Does John McCain agree that they should always “think ‘Mexico first?’” That’s the man who began serving as John McCain’s “Hispanic Outreach Directo” last year. Is there any reason that anyone should think open borders fanatic Dr. Hernandez wants President McCain to secure the border? Is there any reason that anyone should trust a man to secure the border if he is getting his “Hispanic Outreach” advice from Dr. Juan Hernandez?”

I can’t think of any reason to believe John McCain is serious about enforcing America’s immigration laws.

  1. Wow! I hope this gets some serious blog and MSM coverage. People need to e-mail this link to everyone they know! We can’t sit back and let McCain destroy our country!

  2. Donate to Romney today!

    Cory (863679)

  3. And he still hasn’t repudiated the NY Times’ endorsement! Maybe they’re right about him.

  4. The MSM won’t attack McCain on things like this unless he gets nominated.

That’s the way the game is played – the “moderator” is on the other side, so we have to work five times as hard to stay even. It SHOULD make us stronger, but unfortunately it seems to be turning us into them (see McCain and Huckabee as examples).

  5. This story is getting traction on the internet but will never see the light of day in the MSM. I don’t think McCain will win Florida even with the media behind him. Rudy waited too long to make a major effort, plus as Byron York reports today on NRO, the Politico story of Nov 28 last fall really hurt him. It turns out that much of the story was inaccurate but the response was slow and his poll numbers fell rapidly after that. I’m not a big fan of Romney but he may be all we have left.

  6. The MSM is, of course, never going to cover this. If you want to do something about this, and you don’t mind doing a little work, see this. And, if you can’t do that yourself, encourage others to do it.

  7. Seventh Generation?

Taking a standard generation to = 20 yrs, that means people whose families have been Americans for 140 years?

    Techie (ed20d9)

  8. I sent in my ballot today. Voted for Romney.

    Tom (ad8087)

  9. …140 years?
Boy, that pretty much encompasses everyone left over from the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, doesn’t it?

  10. Do you suppose that Hernandez thinks that all descendants of immigrants should put their country of heritage first? Or is it just Mexicans?

And if they should think “Mexico first!” shouldn’t they be acting to improve Mexico?

  11. I would think that the NYTimes endorsment would have been a big red flag for true conservatives.

Honestly I dont see McCain getting the nod. I see a lot of positive media coverage, and two half assed wins very early in the primary season. I don’t see lots of money flowing to Team McCain, nor do I hear anyone except the chattering classes speaking well of him.

  12. Juan Hernandez: “I never knew the border as a limitation. I’d be delighted if all of us could come and go between these two marvelous countries.”

Right. Mexico is so great that millions of its citizens are fleeing and the Mexican government is so negligent that it expects Americans to take care of Mexican citizens.

    Perfect Sense (b6ec8c)

  13. BTW, Hernandez has dual citizenship and worked for Vincente Fox. Geraldo has endorsed McCain as well. As someone said on another blog, “What’s next, an endorsement from the drug smuggler shot in the *ss by the two border patrolmen in prison?

    Ali (8e1a26)

  14. Would it be too much for some of these people to get interested in reforming Mexico so that 80% of the population doesn’t want to leave ?

    No, I guess not.

    Mike K (6d4fc3)

  15. I called McCain2008 for clarification on Hernandez. They said he is an unpaid volunteer.I told them McCain is crazy to take this man on after the Amnesty debacle.

Just when it seemed that some Americans were forgiving McCain on Amnesty he pulls this. This will go down as one of the absolute worst political disasters. It will cost him the Presidency .

    Dennis D (aacd7f)

  16. Ali–

Don’t get me wrong. I will vote for McCain rather than a Democrat or stay home. There are some things I agree with him on. Not as many as i would hope, but enough. And a darn sight more than Clinton or Obama.

But he should at least have the good grace to ignore the NY Times’ endorsement if he cannot repudiate it. Sheesh.

    Kevin Murphy (805c5b)

  17. Here’s a little more on what the McCain folks are doing. They are more concerned about Mexico than they are about the US.

while working cooperatively on many issues, American negotiators must, at the same time, counter Mexican actions that challenge our core national interest in assimilating immigrants as patriotic Americans with undivided political loyalty to the United States. Writing in National Review (October 12, 1998) Jorge Amselle (like Linda Chavez, a pro-immigration Latino Republican) warned that, “The Mexican government through its promotion of bilingual education and of dual nationality and voting is actively subverting the assimilative process of Americanization….”

McCain needs to dissociate himself from this.

He won’t. I was a McCain volunteer in 2000. Not now.

  21. If you check out McCain’s website, you will see his “Hispanic” coalition of “volunteers”. Not only is Juan Hernandez on it, but his brother, Francisco, as well. Both attorneys, both pro-illegal open borders advocates. Yeah, we here in Texas are quite familiar with the Hernandez Bros.
You can equate this to FDR hiring Hitler’s propaganda minister to work on his 1944 campaign because, although no one wants to admit it, we are at war with Mexico. Just ask the Border Patrol.
Local 2544, Tucson Sector of the Border Patrol, has a large article on their website that says “please, don’t vote for McCain”. How pathetic is it when a Republican candidate for POTUS can’t even get the endorsement of the Border Patrol in his own state?

I hope this does cost McCain the presidency. He has turned his back on conservative values and goals time after time by siding with the left side of the aisle. Ever see a bill of his with a Republican co-sponsor unless it was Mel Martinez, who is also pro-illegal, pro-open borders?

If McCain is the candidate I will a) do a write in or b) sit this one out. There is not a hair’s difference in a socialist with an “R” behind his name and a socialist with a “D” behind theirs.

  22. Found this at Drudge…Martinez endorsed McCain today…

I hate to say this, but maybe it time that Romney pulls this issue out for all to see…

  23. Adios McCain

Just as John McCain was resurrecting his presidential bid and moving towards the top of the pact, comes this blockbuster news courtesy of Michelle Malkin and Hot Air: It seems that McCain now has a senior advisor on his staff for outreach to the Hispanic community. His name is Juan Hernandez. If you don’t know who Juan Hernandez is, you need to do some research.

Juan Hernandez appears periodically on the Fox News shows, specifically Bill O’Reilly and Hannity and Colmes. Mr Hernandez is a dual citizen (American-Mexican)who previously worked in ex-President Vicente Foxes cabinet in Mexico. Mr Hernandez, to put it mildly, is an open borders advocate and activist. He is also a fellow in McCain’s Reform Institute. When appearing on Fox News debates, Mr Hernandez comes across and congenial, always smiling, ever polite. But make no mistake. His cause is not just “immigration reform”, but open borders.

That McCain would have this man in his inner circle puts the lie to his recent claims that “he has gotten the message” about border security. I have heard McCain tell voters on CSPAN that he will “build the fence”. Others have overheard McCain talk angrily about “building the Goddamn fence if that’s what they want.” Hernandez’ presence on McCain’s staff tells me that the Arizona senator has no intention of building any fence if elected president.

Like many conservatives, I was willing to give McCain a second look as he was making his surge. No longer. This man strikes me as arrogant and dismissive of anyone who disagrees with him. His experience as a military hero and POW is worthy of respect from all of us, and I have heard none of his political opponents belittle his military record. In that regard, he is a true American hero. Unfortunately, his record as a politician does not live up to his military record. There are several issues about which he is right on- the War Against Terror, winning in Iraq and cutting pork. But for me, the issue of illegal immigration is too important to overlook in a candidate.

I can only hope that this revelation regarding Mr Hernandez will be disseminated quickly enough and widely enough to bring an end to McCain’s rise in the primary polls.

  24. Wow, MaCain just can’t help picking people with the wrong background to be advisers to his campaign. Does anyone else remember Warren G. Rudman, the New Hampshire Republican who was Judge Souter’s principal champion and sponsor for the position of Supreme Court Justice? McCain bragged about having his support for his presidential campaign during the last debate. How much more wrong can you get?

At this time, there really are no GOOD Republican candidates. Forget the Democratic candidates. Pathological liars and buffoons, each and every one (in my opinion). Romney is the last remaining candidate that I could hold my nose and cast a vote for. And that is just sad.

    Jay Curtis (8f6541)

  25. McCain will never be president and his nomination will only assure (100%) that a democrat sleeze bag will be in the white house. I will vote but will not vote for McCain. He’s been a weasel on the level of the Clintons since he lost the nomination in 2000.

    Scrapiron (c36902)

  26. McCain/McCan’t—Why would anyone vote for him? I’m pretty sure the Republican base in Florida will not be swayed because Mel Martinez supports McCain. They’re way too smart to be mindlessly following someone just because he happens to have an opinion. Mitt Romney is the candidate that will be the conservative Republican leader that will unify our party against the Clintons. If you haven’t already watched the MSNBC debate from Thursday night, please take the time to do so before you vote. Mitt was the shining star, a true conservative leader who has the history of changing broken businesses and organization. He has been a leader since he was a young kid….read about him and you’ll see. He has simultaneous business/law degrees from Harvard where he graduated at the top of his class in BOTH. Contrast that to Senator McCain’s bottom 5% in his navy class. We don’t want the candidate who was endorsed by the liberal NY Times. We want the man who has lived his whole life as a conservative, who adores his wife and 5 sons, who will fix our broken America! MSNBC came out in criticism of “straight talking” McCain today for lying on several counts last evening…do your research 🙂

  27. Patterico: is there some IP overlap with Cory/McCan’t?

It sounds like Romney’s paid some over-enthusiastic young volunteer to tell us web-yokels What’s Going On…

  28. The Latin Community wants a change, now that Obama is the presidential candidate and a minority, most of the hispanic will vote for him. I believe most of the big states like California, Texas, New York, and Florida will be a big factor for Obama to win this election.
