US Border Patrol Agent Killed (Updated)
[Guest post by DRJ]
Fox News reports a Border Patrol agent has been killed as he attempted to put down a spike strip to stop a fleeing vehicle that illegally entered the US:
“A Border Patrol agent trying to stop a vehicle that had illegally entered the U.S. was struck and killed Saturday in southeastern California, agency officials said.
The agent was killed about 20 miles west of Yuma in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, a spot along the border that is popular with off-road vehicle enthusiasts and frequently used by smugglers. The agent attempted to impede the vehicle’s progress before he was hit, but the Border Patrol did not immediately have more information, said agent Eric Anderson, a spokesman for the agency’s Yuma sector.
The name of the agent killed was not immediately released because his family had not been notified.
Witnesses told the Yuma Sun newspaper that agents were chasing a Hummer and a Ford pickup on Interstate 8 when the vehicles turned into the dunes and fled toward Mexico. The agent was trying to place spike strips in their path and was struck by the Hummer, they said.
The Imperial Sand Dunes are the largest dunes in California, extending north of the border for 40 miles and averaging five miles wide.”
According to this Houston Chronicle article, Ford pickups are smugglers’ favorite vehicles.
UPDATE 1/24/2008: A suspect has been arrested in Mexico. See Steve’s comment #32.

I’m sure Mexico isn’t looking real hard for the murderer. By the way, what would happen if Mexico did arrest the murderer? They wouldn’t send him here because it’s a capital offense. I guess we aren’t allowed to hunt down the murderer ourselves so I guess we are just supposed to curse and stomp our feet about it.
If you are a Mexican living in the US, crime is a good career option because you have a get out of jail free card by just going back to Mexico. Works just as good if you are here legally, as the manhunt for that Marine shows.
j curtis (411a00) — 1/19/2008 @ 3:56 pmHow goes the 700 miles of border fence? I guess Congress forgot about building the fence.
Kramer (2715e7) — 1/19/2008 @ 4:04 pmAnd the ACLU will volunteer to represent the killer, should he ever chance to be arrested.
Patricia (f56a97) — 1/19/2008 @ 4:23 pmThis is sad. Ordinarily, when a cop is killed, all other other police business is put on the back border and the entire department’s resources are put on catching the killer. I don’t see how that is possible with the Border Patrol considering that they’re already overwhelmed. One possible course of action is a work slowdown at border crossing. Let everybody wanting to come into the United States from Mexico have to wait in his vehicle in the hot sun for eight hours. Mexican officials especially. A similar thing at airports. Every suitcase off every Mexican flight gets searched and every passenger gets strip-searched.
nk (a07608) — 1/19/2008 @ 4:31 pmHey! Maybe we should put up a wall. Nah! No way, how ridiculous would that be!
MikeD (8d6aeb) — 1/19/2008 @ 4:43 pmWe all know the answer to this, but don’t want to
state it: Maybe we should have invaded Mexico
instead of Iraq. If the Mexican government cannot
enforce laws there and/or provide a humane
governemnt, then maybe we should assume
that role – by force. It would not be the first
time we invaded that country. We had more balls
in 1848, probably.
Just my 02 rubles.
Max Yakov (3a9b5e) — 1/19/2008 @ 4:57 pmThe Ford pickup is also one of the top 10 vehicles for lesbians:
Top 10 lesbian cars
Maybe Ford just sells a lot of trucks.
TomHynes (6c3e12) — 1/19/2008 @ 6:06 pmWonderful news. What do you think President McCain will do about things like these?
Probably call you a racist for even bringing it up.
Alan (f1706f) — 1/19/2008 @ 7:20 pmAnd what would Ron Paul say, Alan?
nk (a07608) — 1/19/2008 @ 7:45 pmSmugglers & lesbians! I say ban Ford pickups!
Kevin Murphy (0b2493) — 1/19/2008 @ 9:09 pmNow can the family sue the crap out of the mexican goverment and can those who did this crime be lynched?
krazy kagu (d34444) — 1/19/2008 @ 9:51 pmI was watching the Denzel Washington movie “Man on Fire” today;
nothing more needs to be said about Mexico, and they were probably sugar-coating it.
Look in the paper and read about the wars going on in that country. Can anyone give better odds than a toss-up as to who will win:
Another Drew (8018ee) — 1/19/2008 @ 10:27 pmThe corrupt government in Mexico City, or the corrupt drug cartels running rampant throughout the country?
“What do you think President McCain will do about things like these?”
He would lock that dead corpse up in prison for 10 years!
The audacity of an armed agent attempting to stop a drug runner in this nation. Reprehensible I say. They must be punished to fullest extent possible, even if they are dead!
I actually read a response to a news article, about a couple of illegals involved in a death in NV that the US should erect shooting/guard towers every 200′ or some such distance, shoot on site!
It’s possible that erecting those towers around DC would be a better location.
But the reality will be some hoopla over the funeral, and not one daaumed thing will change and gawd forbid an armed BP agent so much as draw his weapon, yet alone fire it!
just a thought.
TC (1cf350) — 1/20/2008 @ 1:46 amTC: You’re right.
nk: You’re a jackass.
Alan (f1706f) — 1/20/2008 @ 1:46 pmI really think we need to return all illegals to Mexico. But I really think that they should go back in body bags.
BRENT (d88033) — 1/20/2008 @ 2:12 pmTC and Alan,
Shouldn’t you be posting your crap on Stormfront’s site?
nk (a07608) — 1/20/2008 @ 2:21 pmHow difficult can it be to find a single Hummer in Algodones, Mexico – are there really that many down there?!
This is beyond sad. It’s drugs, not “looking for jobs Americans won’t do” that brought that pendejo across.
steve (4fe8f7) — 1/20/2008 @ 3:23 pmSpike strips Do NOT stop vehicles, but pose a great danger to the person placing the strips. As a So. Ca. Cop since 1970, I have witnesed the total lack of concern by those we elect to protect our border and to preserve the American way of life. McCain would be our Second President to give amnesty to people who enter our country illegally. Americans need to stop visiting Mexico, and encourage Mexicans to revolt against their Govt. in order to Create jobs there.
JB (d1c216) — 1/21/2008 @ 6:15 amSomebody asked about progress on the fence. The omnibus spending building deleted money for it after pressure by the Bush administration. I imagine John McCain was thrilled.
Banjo (b5278d) — 1/21/2008 @ 8:01 amThe agent paid the price for interfering with international trade at an approved international route that cannot be closed with a wall since that would hurt US/Mexico relationships and would also hurt the economy.
Luis (f424ae) — 1/21/2008 @ 8:47 amWhen Ricky Camarena was murdered, the border guards had a “slow down” which effectively closed the border. Considering how pissed off everyone was, it was pretty effective.
tired (48ae93) — 1/21/2008 @ 9:05 amWhoops! Didn’t see your post, nk.
tired (48ae93) — 1/21/2008 @ 9:06 amI think we should demand that our government get tough with Mexico. Build the damned fence. Then, put together a “Bounty Hunting Squad” to bring back felons from Mexico. Maybe have Dog Chapman traing them on finding these felons.
Of course we’ll have to change the laws to prevent the ACLU from getting the aprehended felons freed to return to Mexico.
PCD (f14ddd) — 1/21/2008 @ 9:09 amMexico won’t extradite mexicans who have murdered in the US unless they are not facing the death penalty. Worse, they have also made noises objecting to any sentence over 30 years which they consider cruel & unusual.
tired (48ae93) — 1/21/2008 @ 9:36 amHad the Mexicans been killed, there would have been lawyers suing and getting a cut. As things stand right now, there could well be lawyers involved, and getting a cut.
Ever notice that no matter how things break, lawyers get a cut?
martin (d3fe32) — 1/21/2008 @ 11:16 amtired,
I’m saying that we START treating Mexico as they are treating us.
1. Do not recognize their borders or laws.
2. Protect US citizens from Mexican courts.
3. Put our military on the border, and if we have reason, raid Mexico as they have raided us.
4. Treat Mexican illegals as Mexico treats South American illegals.
5. Go one better, go in to Mexico and drag back criminals to the US for Justice.
PCD (f14ddd) — 1/21/2008 @ 12:20 pmI don’t understand how this Border Patrol Agent did not use his weapon. Never mind, probably the last thing that came to his mind was if I do my job and defend myself I will probably end up with Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean. He would have probably been arrested and prosecuted for shooting a drug smuggler. These things are happening because all law enforcement agents are second guessing themselves and are afraid of the consequences for doing their job.
PissedOff LEO (e73d93) — 1/21/2008 @ 3:06 pmWell!!!! No matter what anyone say the BAD guys are always right!!!! If we shoot we get fired we can’t even draw out weapons as a show of force..If we get an A/D subject we don’t draw we keep asking questions… We have to get shoot First and then IF we survive we can shoot (maybe) depends on the suppervisor,,,they won’t back us up!!! The Federal Goverment don’t care!!! WE (the USA) has to be nice to every one even while they shoot at us.
carlos martines (0ec19d) — 1/21/2008 @ 4:38 pmNot a genuine break in the case, but this has crossed:
steve (a1a24c) — 1/21/2008 @ 8:46 pmThanks for the link, Steve. As reported in the article, if these vehicles were the ones involved in the Border Patrol agent’s death, they had both been stolen in California.
In addition, the Yuma Sun also reports that the Border Patrol agent who was killed was from El Paso.
DRJ (517d26) — 1/21/2008 @ 8:54 pmIs LA’s Spanish-language Media Protecting Illegal Alien Lawbreakers?
On New Year’s Day, John Kerns was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was walking along the sidewalk on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles. The vehicle is believed to have swerved across the width of the street before striking Kerns. The driver of the car, who has been identified as Cristobal Arellano, fled the scene on foot. To this date, he has not been captured and is believed to be hiding in Mexico. It is also believed that Arellano, a Mexican male 22-25 years of age, is an illegal alien. It is also believed that he was intoxicated while operating the vehicle.
On January 18, 2008, the LAPD held a news conference to ask for the public’s help in locating Arellano. As is customary, all the local news outlets were notified of the press conference in advance, including the Spanish language outlets- Telemundo and Univision. All of the local news outlets attended the conference with the exception of Telemundo and Univision. Naturally, the LAPD asked the public through the news organizations to call in with any information as to Arellano’s whereabouts.
While the other English-language news organizations reported the incident, the Spanish outlets did not. To date, the LAPD officers investigating the case have received no calls.
Today, the sister of Kerns, Lynn Stanton, was interviewed on the KFI John and Ken show, expressing her frustration at the lack of cooperation and lack of interest from the Spanish media.
It goes without saying that if the police are trying to gain help from the public in locating a suspect, that the help of the news media is crucial in publicizing the incident. If the suspect is from the Spanish-speaking community, the help of the Spanish-language media is crucial. Yet for some reason, Telemundo and Univision seem unwilling to publicize incidents of this nature. Why? Why cannot these two organizations do their civic duty as a Los Angeles-based news outlet? Is it because they don’t want to publicize crimes by illegal aliens? Is it because they are unwilling to aid in the capture of an illegal alien?
John and Ken have put the telephone numbers of Univision and Telemundo on their website for anyone who would like to call and inquire as to why they are not reporting this story.

But government is trying to rid the Border Patrols so it can become one nation with Mexico and Canada. It is the goal of the government to get rid of the border. Check out the new DVD that explains why congress is refusing to protect our borders even 6 years after the devastating impact of 9/11 movie is “Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement” available at netflix
