Evel Knievel

CNN.com has one of the best tribute sites going for him.

What Stuart Pittman of Greensboro, North Carolina writes on the site precisely parallels my own thoughts and experiences (including the scrapes I got on my bike doing stupid stunts and the worry and scolding I got from my mom – all due to Evel’s influence).

A true American original. He will be missed.

Glad to see that most news outlets have reported on his passing with the attention it deserves.

His official site here. Another great tribute page where you can get Evel merchandise here.

  1. No disrespect *at all* intended to Evel, may he rest in peace, yet I wonder how much traffic this will get. On some other conservative sites the death of that venerable conservative pro-life stalwart, Rep. Henry Hyde, got very little attention while Mr. Kneivel’s death got quite a lot. *Sigh*

  2. Knievel. Can I look up ten centimeters on the screen? I think not!

  3. He’s probably jumping busses in heaven… 🙂

    Ride on, Evel, ride on.

  4. He was the last relic of the way America used to be, before the lawyers and pussies took over.

  5. No one you know –

No disrepsect taken at all. But the difference is that Rep. Hyde was someone I greatly respected, while Evel Knievel has been a flat-out hero since childhood. I know many who feel the same – at least those of us in our late 30’s to early 40’s.

  6. He was my drinking buddy for three nights in 1978, and indirectly responsible for my becoming a trial lawyer.

  7. Misremembered. Just two nights, it was.

  8. Great story, Beldar, and it probably felt like 3 nights.

  9. OC Weekly reports Reverend Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral will conduct Knievel’s funeral in Montana. It also says Schuller baptized Knievel earlier this year.
