Also, you should make a claim on your Medical Payments coverage, if you elected to carry that. Kind of related and may be of use to those with kids who drive. One of my kids blew a red light and hit a casino shuttle bus. Everyone was okay and went on to gamble that evening. About a week later five of the six passengers contacted lawyers about suing. My kid just happened to have insurance in her name and wasn't on our policy. Her car was totalled. After the accident she continued paying for "non-owner's insurance". Our insurance company advised doing this because to put her back on our policy could possibly have made our assets reachable in any lawsuits. fortunately no one followed through and the deadline to file came and went. Hope someone benefits from the tip. Hopefully he gets some jail time and a long suspension of his license.
