Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous

Given Britney Spears’ parenting history, this may expose me as a heartless person but this is the worst thing I’ve ever read about Britney:

“The pop princess is a big spender.

Court papers released Thursday in Britney Spears’ custody dispute with Kevin Federline show she spends lavishly on clothes and entertainment, and doesn’t save or invest any of her roughly $737,000 monthly income.”

She makes gross income of $737,000 a month and can’t save anything?

I won’t feign surprise but for a person who depends on youthfulness to make her career work, this is sad. It’s unlikely she will be able to make this amount of money forever. There are more specifics on her budget at the link. Her ex-husband isn’t much better.

  1. I think she’s a stupid hillbilly tramp who fell ass-backward into money without a lick of talent.

But, I watched a video of her trying to get into and out of a lighting store yesterday, and the crush of asshole photogs she had to wade through would make me crazy in about 10 seconds.

Now, the flip side of the story is that she had her two kids with her, along with the court-required monitor, and she simply left them behind in the car while she went into the store. But what choice did she have? No way she could navigate the “environment” with two small kids without an army of security.

She really needs to move out of LA, settle into life in a “compound” setting until the “celebrity” of her situation goes away.

  2. hey, $737,000 a month just doesn’t go as far as it used to…

  3. If you add up what they tell us about Britneys cash flow, she accounts for only around $105,000 per month (good allah). I guess she has been snorting and smoking the other $600,000+ a month?

These people live on a different planet.

  4. I assume this must be gross income and that a large part goes to taxes, payments to staff and security, and insurance, medical, and similar expenses. Together, those items are probably a fairly large number.

  5. Patrick,
A very sizable amount goes to her mortgages.Surely some of that can be converted into principal if needed.Still,I recall that each successive cd sells less. And there is a large supply of employees and leaches around her.She certainly isn’t making, nor is she likely to make significant money touring. In fact, she seems to be Judy Garland, sans talent.
And the lack of talent seems to be why so many people are disparaging her.It seems to offend the sense of proprietie that someone with so little to offer became so rich and famous.Well, off to bed.I never expected to write on Britney Spears.

  6. Actually, her new CD is supposed to be quite good. (go figure..the critics were all surprised too)

Now it is true that she has not done any appearances, or set up a tour to support it, but they expect this CD to make at least as much money as her earlier ones.

That said, I second the idea that she needs to move out of LA.

  7. Michael Jackson is defaulting on the mortgage for Neverland and will probably have to give it up. Lots of singers in particular go this route. MC Hammer went through everything he had in the 80’s.

Spears hasn’t hit bottom yet – that is too bad.

    DRJ,
Good point about the overhead. With the advent of file sharing and music piracy the people that will suffer the most are those staff people who performed the technical and marketing work. The artists will still make a lot of money but not as much as they could have.

  8. Not long ago, I realized that I would be surprised if Britney was still alive ten years from now. She is a very sad story, but it’s hard to come up with much sympathy for somebody that’s been given such a huge advantage in life and lets it all waste away.

  9. Spears hasn’t hit bottom yet

She lost her kids to a Kevin Federline. How far from the bottom can she be? 🙂

Now, you all know how hard it is to remain a drunken slattern in the public eye on a paltry $700,000 a month.

This was time when 750 million dollars was considered a lot of money
