L.A. Times Concocts Story About Restaurant

The L.A. Times has admitted concocting a story about a West Hollywood restaurant, and has issued a correction.

Il Piccolino Trattoria: An item in The Guide’s cover story on Thursday stated that Il Piccolino Trattoria is in Beverly Hills. It is in West Hollywood.

Some may argue that this was merely an error regarding the location of the restaurant. But my point is that, as a restaurant in Beverly Hills, it was “concocted” in that the restaurant was never located there. The paper corrected it, which means editors admit it never existed there.

I hope this makes perfect sense. If not, read this.

  3. You’re driving the LAT crazy, Patrick. They’re now so tangled that they can never get straight. Their only hope–“it will go away.”

  4. This is a joke, right? The LAT correction is for a short item submitted by an outsider, not a story “concocted” by the Times. Here’s the offending entry in its entirety:

    Richard Donner
    Filmmaker, “Superman,” “Lethal Weapon”

Il Piccolino Trattoria in Beverly Hills is a hidden gem. I hope it stays that way. Maybe I should have given the wrong address! 350 N. Robertson Blvd., Beverly Hills. (310) 659-2220

Indeed, he did give the wrong address. Shame on the Times for not fact-checking it. But saying an entire story is “concocted” because of one factual error is absurd. Which is why I assume this was posted in jest. The comments, too, right?

  5. Yup. I get it now. “Concocted.” Cute.
