The View from the Hammock
[“The View from the Hammock” threatens to be an ongoing series, as I tap out posts while lying in a hammock.]
I heard that the Santa Anas died down today.
But I now know it’s true — because I’m lying in the hammock at around 8:30 p.m., and it’s chilly outside.
That’s how it’s supposed to be. The last few nights, it’s like I was living in Texas. I’d come out here and it would be warm.
This is a good thing. The fires should die down now.
If only.
There’s still plenty to be burnt back behind the flames, with onshore winds the fires will get pushed back into territory that still has a lot to burn. This is no time to get complacent.

This shatters my image of you, busily typing away at a desk with a pile of law books stacked carelessly around you, a copy of the Los Angeles Times open and on the floor, the curtains firmly drawn to prevent you from being distracted by the view, and dual monitors to make it easier to read the articles you are challenging without toggling away from your own marvelous missives.

I thought that was the normal air in LA.
