How I Spent My Summer Vacation, Part 16

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:09 am

This is the last in the series. It is the family looking out over Lake Maggiore, Italy.

I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at these pictures half as much as I enjoyed taking them.

  1. “The radiation from the meteor that destroyed the mountain in the aft-ground had the unfortunate effect of stunting the growth of my 40 year old twin brother and sister. They appear child-like, but no longer consider the idea humorous. Luckily for me, I was born later, after the radiation had dissipated.” – Mrs. Patterico

  2. That was a neat series of photos that covered many of my favorite places in Switzerland. You should consider a short post on travelling with kids through Europe. I know that even the most beautiful areas can leave young children either under or overwhelmed and whiny.

  3. I’ve enjoyed the looking at the photos of your European vacation, Pat. What kind of camera did you use?

  6. Been there too, twice. Once on the honeymoon and once with the kids as a quick add-on to the Switzerland trip.

Funny our tastes in vacation be a lot closer than our tastes in politics.

Anakin Skywalker got married at Lake Como. I’ve always enjoyed knowing that Darth and I took our honeymoons in the same place.

  7. I love the breathtaking (and incredibly manicured) Swiss scenery but Italy is the country I’d like to visit again … and again and again.

  8. DRJ, you are so right. Been to Italy once, much too briefly. The outstanding places in my memory were Assisi and Venice–especially Venice. Miss Manners says there are Venice people and Florence people. I’m a Venice person. Which are you?

  9. And (almost forgot!) they are wonderful photos. I’ve taken the liberty of making your photo of Lauterbrunn (with the impertinent paraglider photoshopped out of existence) into the wallpaper for my PC.

  10. Kishnevi,

It’s been years since I traveled in Italy and I’m sure everything has changed, but my favorite places were the Isle of Capri, followed by Venice and Florence.

  11. The main things I remember about Capri were the long steep stairways, the masses and masses of flowers, and Krupp’s beach. And, strangely, given that it was Capri, not a pretty boy in sight, despite the mob of tourists.

You don’t suppose we could arrange a Patterico tour of Italy next year?

  12. I’m game, especially if there’s a cruise ship involved.
