Bush makes ever-broader executive privilege claims.
The country is becoming resigned to the inevitability of Hillary.
You can’t beat a computer at checkers.
Yawn.
I say: post links to some cool videos.
What?
I meant you post them. In the comments. I can’t do everything around here.
UPDATE: Seriously, if everyone posts links to cool videos in the comments, then everybody can watch cool videos. Maybe I’ll post the best ones in the near future.
Of course, if you really want to comment on the above stories, or anything else, I guess you can do that too.
Man smashes can of WD-40. I am amused.
NSFW, btw, unless you mute your sound. Some buddy of Mr. Moron yells out an “oh fuck”…
You have been warned.

Scott Jacobs (90eabe) — 7/20/2007 @ 6:41 amcomputers play perfect checkers, so what, checkers lends itself to this. computers can now beat the world chess champ, but there’s still one refuge of people-superiority. go is the oldest board game in the world, started in china, perfected in japan, played with black and white stones on a grid of 361 points. i am not aware that a computer has ever beaten a go master.
assistant devil's advocate (01dec7) — 7/20/2007 @ 7:04 amSorry, no video, but I found this odd, and relevant with the recent TSA news.
From the Dr Scholl’s web site for their gellin’ massaging gel insoles:
Under new security measures put in place by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), airline passengers are not permitted to board aircraft with gel insoles in their carry-on baggage or on their persons.
TSA regulations do allow passengers to pack their gel insoles in checked baggage.

TakeFive (2bf7bd) — 7/20/2007 @ 7:45 amOK, the Smirnoff “preppy rap” video is not really new, but it is very funny, and the WSJ cited it yesterday in their “The Return of the Preppy” fashion piece, which I guess makes it au courantagain.

Driver (faae10) — 7/20/2007 @ 8:06 amMan, I wish I was defence lawyer practicing against Patterico. President tells the U.S. Attorney’s you cannot prosecute White House employees and your response is Yawn?
If this happened in Canada you’d be removed from your job so fast your head would spin.
Seriously, you don’t seem to understand the basic function of independent prosecutors. As such, you really shouldn’t be working as one.
Bob Smith (469c2b) — 7/20/2007 @ 8:22 amSome of the other Elevator Episodes are funny. My youngest son likes the wrestling episode – I think it’s called EWF. I also liked your Smirnoff music video (perfect casting) and NK’s Storm Troopers/Cops spoof. Hopefully I can view more links later today.

DRJ (8b9d41) — 7/20/2007 @ 8:28 amYou’re right about go ada. In fact, computers aren’t even that good at it. The last time I heard, they could only beat a strong amateur player–nowhere near a master.
Give it ten years, though. They’ll get it eventually.
Music video.
Russell (f446ff) — 7/20/2007 @ 8:43 amBob Smith, evidently you missed the fact that Canada already had a brazen case of interference in prosecution of corruption involving the ruling party using government funds for campaigning a couple of years ago.
Of course, you don’t seem to understand what happened in the case you reference here.
This is what always makes me laugh about Canadians – they are far more informed on the flaws of the US than about their own country.
Robin Roberts (6c18fd) — 7/20/2007 @ 8:50 amOh, so Karl Rove can murder anyone he wants, giggle maniacally, and walk away scot free? Well, no.

Some guy takes the gloriously bombastic theme song from Sony’s hyper-violent game “God of War 2”, written in Greek to suit the mythological mood, and performs an English-best-fit with the phonetics of the lyrics. The end result is best presented with full visual and audio accompaniment:

It’s raw, but no sex or nudity….probably work-safe as long as you keep the volume down…the metal rock audio is X-rated.

—-> Movie Producer Julius R. Nasso Sues Los Angeles Times for $10,000,000 in Damages for Defamatory Statements about His Character
(press release)
According to the lawsuit, on June 7, 2007 Los Angeles Times Staff reporter Chuck Philips wrote an article titled “Pellicano Lawyers Target FBI Agent” falsely stating, “Seagal had been in a film partnership with reputed Gambino crime family member Julius Nasso. . .”
On June 9, 2007 Nasso’s New York lawyer Robert Hantman demanded a retraction clearly stating that if the LA Times were to reiterate the false statements that Mr. Nasso was “a reputed Gambino crime family member,” this would constitute further evidence of actual malice. According to Mr. Hantman, on June 16, 2007 a retraction did appear which “republished the previous defamatory statement,” and, rather than apologize, the statement implied that Nasso was “an associate.” On July 5th another retraction was requested and to date this request has been ignored.
Jules Nasso is suing the Los Angeles Times and Pulitzer Prize winning reporter Chuck Phillips on three counts including “knowingly, willfully, and maliciously disseminating false information about him.”
“Had reporter Chuck Phillips read the judge’s transcript from 2004 in its entirety he would not have erroneously reported on my character. In 2003 and 2004 his own newspaper covered this case and previously reported the judge’s ruling,” explains Jules Nasso. “I refuse to sit back and let a reporter make defamatory statements about me in a newspaper that is an invaluable resource in the very industry I work, film,” he added.

daleyrocks (906622) — 7/20/2007 @ 7:50 pmDaleyrocks, no doubt there are hundreds of thousands of BDS sufferers closing their drapes and locking their windows in fear of the jackbooted thugs crashing in their doors as we speak.
But that is just an example of the debasement of political discourse in this country. Cheney is an adult in a fairly responsible administration and nothing could be further from his mind. I remember in 2000 when George W announced before the convention that Cheney would be his VP nominee and I remember thinking what a striking choice it was and how indicative of what a signal it was that there was to be a change in the tone of administration from the juvenile posturing of the Clinton administration to a more mature and responsible one. And that really did happen despite the ridiculous rhetoric.
Robin Roberts (6c18fd) — 7/20/2007 @ 8:16 pmRobin – Nevertheless, the thought of all those lefties enjoying the image of Bush getting his colonostomy is probably enough to send Cheny over the edge. He might decide he needs some target practice and invite Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Leahy, Schumer, Durbin, and Feingold over for lunch. The possibilities are endless. I will dream well tonight.

I’m not sure if the clips are still total, but it is worth watching start to finish. If you’re in court regularly, it’s tremendous. If you’re not, you’ll still appreciate this.
I have to say, the judge was tremendously patient and gave this lawyer out after out after out. And he wouldn’t bite. He was bound and determined for that to end badly.
Again, if you haven’t seen this, see it. It’s worth it.
