The paper didn’t warn terrorists, an employee did, and according to the NYT, not with their knowledge.

vet6, the records are the phone company’s, and have already been obtained (previous decision of Sixth Court, which NYT was trying to get postponed).

The government already has copies of the records, now they can examine them. The records won’t reveal what was said, just when calls were made and to whom.

One possible lesson learned from this: wire-tap a target before planning to freeze its assets, that way you might be able to catch the tipsters.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the phone records in question mysteriously disappear. However, If they are still in existence, they should provide enlightening reading to be sure!
