Milton Friedman is dead. His vision, of an America unburdened by counterproductive social welfare programs, died long ago.
Allah says: “Libertarian flags fly at half mast.” He also provides the link to this wonderful video showing Friedman making his excellent arguments in favor of that long-dead vision.
UPDATE: In honor of Friedman, I plan to pay for my lunch tomorrow.

A few years ago I had the privilege of attending a small Q&A session with Friedman. Someone asked him, across the broad span of his remarkable career, what was his proudest achievement. Without hesitating, he replied, “The volunteer army.” A loud outburst of applause followed.
We’ll never see his like again.

Gbear (c22f1c) — 11/17/2006 @ 3:46 amJust got done reading “Capitalism and Freedom” for the second time a few months ago. Friedman was indeed a sophisticated theoretical mind who will continue to be read widely, but, alas, his ideas suffer from the same faults of all grand economic theorists:
Those damned people and their complex behavior keep mucking up the theoretical models! Oh well…
