Lap Dancing Illegal in Vegas

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 10:35 am

Lap dancing has been ruled illegal in Las Vegas.

At least, the kind where women do things to try to sexually arouse men.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports:

[Quote deleted. I will not quote thugs. — P]

The prohibited acts for which strippers have received citations include “rubbing breasts against patrons’ faces and grinding buttocks into patrons’ groins, according to the ruling.”

The city attorney assures the paper that, as long as strippers don’t engage in these or similar activities, lap dancing is still permitted.

Vegas strip-club owners don’t sound reassured.

Harry Reid’s phone is reportedly ringing off the hook.

(I made that part up, but you know it’s true.)

  1. Next thing they’ll do is outlaw prostitution in Vegas. Oh, wait….

  2. I went to one of those places in Florida during a bachelor party about fifteen years. (I was not a wet blanket. I did not ruin anyone else’s good time. But the place was dirty. I did not drink anything and was careful what I touched.) And I felt sorry for the girls and ashamed of my whole species that a human being should subject herself to such debasement and degradation in order to earn her daily bread.

Last I checked, bread was 2 bucks a loaf.

  7. So it’s not the lap dancing that’s the problem, it’s the sexual arousal that’s the problem?

Why doesn’t the law just fine men who get erections while attractive naked women are rubbing their bodies on them? It’s only reasonable.

  8. “Daily bread” is a metaphor, asshole Christoph.

  9. they arent earning bread. they earn mercedes benz. if a stripper wants to, they make a BOAT load of $. people who just need $ work at denny’s. strippers make A LOT of $.

  10. Wait a minute, Carson . . . how much is a lap dance with my closing time breakfast at Denny’s?

  11. Carson said it best, NK. I despise the sexual abuse that can occur when females are young that in some many cases often leads to poor life choices, including stripping, prostitution, etc., but more often, drugs and alcohol (although they are related).

But strippers doing lap dances aren’t merely earning a “living”. They are generally raking in the dough and blowing it at the same time.

I think anyone has the right to choose their life’s work, but your statement about them having the debase and degrade themselves to earn their daily bread is off base. A job does that and the jobless rate is way low right now.

No, rubbing one’s genitals into men’s laps is about many things, but mostly about earning a large profit/hour. It’s not mandatory.

  12. The question is, where do you draw the line between entertainment and prostitution? It seems perfectly reasonable to draw that line somewhat south of a woman rubbing her naked breasts in a man’s face.

There are good practical reasons for drawing it there too. For one thing, physical contact of that sort is a good way to pass diseases around. Some poor smuck pays a girl $20 to take her clothes off and she ends up rubbing her breasts in his face, he doesn’t know where those breasts have been. And at that point he is likely to be too aroused to use his best judgment in whether or not to accept her familiarity even if he didn’t originally want that level of intimacy.

And then there is the side of the women, who may have hired on just to take off their clothes, but they find that they can’t make any money because all of the other women are rubbing their breasts in the faces of the customers. She either has to go along or find another job. Talk about sexual harassment, what would happen in any other business where the male customers said: “if you want my business you have to rub your tits in my face.”?

Quick, somebody invent breast condoms. For the prevention of disease only.

  14. Seattle voters, who send Baghdad Jim McDermott to Congress at every opportunity, just refused to ban lap-dancing. The porn kings spent a fortune on their “free speech” campaign. It worked.

  15. Carson #9 and Christoph #11: Ok, for the sake of argument I agree that those girls could be working at Denny’s. So what does it say about us (sons, husbands, fathers) that we would give them $2.00 for feeding us breakfast and $20.00 for sitting naked on our laps for three minutes?

And I disagree strongly, Christoph Comment #9, that every job degrades and debases. I believe the opposite: There is no shame in work. (But becoming a human toy is not work.)

  16. Sorry, that should have read “Chistoph Comment #11, that every job ….”

  17. NK, good catch. I thought about that after I clicked “Submit Comment”. That was just bad sentence construction on my part.

    This is all I meant:

…to earn their daily bread is off base. A job does that…

    As far as:

So what does it say about us (sons, husbands, fathers) that we would give them $2.00 for feeding us breakfast and $20.00 for sitting naked on our laps for three minutes?

It says that everyone makes our moral choices. I choose to spend my money wisely on breakfast or foolishly on more harmless things. Mostly. But to the degree that I have not (seeing strippers, buying pornographic mags in the past, etc.), I morally damaged myself.

The women in question who choose to trade rubbing of their genitalia for large dollars rather than provide a more innocent, less morally harmful service… do moral damage to themselves and get their reward.

This is the truth. Being female doesn’t exempt them from spiritual consequences.

I think it depends on how a guy wants his Grand Slam.

  20. I’m pretty sure there are no $20 lap dances in Vegas. This sucks, because you used to be able unload $400 for a kickass lapdance and hey, if you took that kind of money away from the craps table what better way to give it back to the community. The ICSC Convention will never be the same.
