Liveblogging the Intermission of the Roger Waters Concert

Good stuff so far, although (like the CSNY concert) it’s a big anti-Bush rally. Still, Waters is playing a wide selection of vintage Floyd, and for the most part, it sounds great.

Full review tomorrow.

UPDATE: Nick Mason just took the stage.

  1. Sounds like a blast, Patterico… hope you’re enjoying it!

  2. As far is it being an anti-Bush rally, that’s nothing new for Roger Waters. I saw him in 1984, during the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking tour, in Hartford, and during “Nobody Home” he’s watching the Democrat National Convention live on tv and stopped the show to make some rant in support of the dems. It was a great show, but that was pathetic.

  3. I can’t imagine supporting Roger Waters in any way, shape or form. He’s a huckster with a cashbox. Thank god most of his audience is old now.

  4. I never, ever got his groove. At ALL.
Con man, maybe. Musician with excellent skills. No chops. None. Not even in storage.

Charlie Christian, Duke Robillard, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, “Little Charlie” Charlie Baity all have chops. Those guys I get.

Enjoy whatever you enjoy, no harm in that.

  5. Saw him first show in Boston. As a whole, the musicians and overall performance put any concert by the original Floyd to shame.

As to politics: forget the puerile flying pig graffiti; the most offensive display was the grainy close-up of NAncy Reagan waving in slow motion from the back of a limo, just as the last line of “Us and Them” was sung.
For anyone not knowing it’s, “And the old man died”, a disguised reference to Reagan’s death superimposed with the fading image of Nancy.

  6. Roger Waters BDS Concert Review in Pictures…

There were many Bush Derangement Syndrome images timed to coincide with lines from the song Eclipse. “all that you hate” – Image of George Bush, “and all that you buy, beg, borrow or steal” – image of oil rig, and on and on and on. You get …

  7. well, if you want an opinion from a 16 year old Floydian, yea i guess he can be “brilliant” no doubt about it, i saw him in irvine, california in June of 2007. awesome concert, the Pink Floyd songs that is. Classic Dark Side of the Moon, Wish you were here, & The Wall songs were Awesome. but his middle eastern crap was boring me to death, not amusing me to death. I give the guy credit, but if you don’t like America. Go Home. Anti-Bush is all over, but I’d like to ask Roger why he won’t run for prime minister or something. Ah, but for all I know, since he’s getting older in years, or better yet wearing Depends and Dentures, he could be a somewhat nicer guy, the bunnies and rainbows.
    hah. no idea.
that’s my opinion though towards the “Musical Genuis”.
