Well, No *Wonder* the Islamists Were Upset
I hadn’t realized the Pope’s remarks were quite this harsh. I’ll quote only a line or two:
“Why don’t you have a seat on my pointy-ass hat,” continued the Bishop of Rome. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you, Abdul?”
I can’t bear to quote more, but if you click on the above link, Treacher has the whole distressing report. (Strong language warning.)
I don’t know the angle of that blog, having only visited your link, but damn.

assistant devil's advocate (a496c0) — 9/17/2006 @ 9:31 amback during world war two, a young german soldier was assigned to guard duty in poland, and he was instructed to shoot anything he saw that wasn’t another german soldier.
along came a polish priest. the young soldier put his rifle to his shoulder and sighted in on the priest.
then a voice – the voice of god – told the soldier “don’t shoot that priest. he’s gonna be pope someday!”
the soldier thought about this for a moment, looked up and replied “ok, i won’t shoot him…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
just as long as i get to be pope someday too!”
The religion of peace what a sick idea rediclous and stupid

Nope, still don’t. Went right over my head and landed somewhere behind me. Looking for it, but no luck so far.
Skul (d17970) — 9/18/2006 @ 11:05 amHe was contrasting the mild and obviously true miedeval quote the pope used (that even back then Islam spread its religion by the sword, as instructed by Mohammed, and that they’re still doing so a thousand years later) and what would have been a truly offensive statement worthy of an angry reaction.
He was pointing out that the Islamists reacted angrily because that’s what they do, because the pope’s quote is correct, and because their religion is largely based on violence.
Do you understand it now?
Christoph (9824e6) — 9/18/2006 @ 11:10 amno, no,no, The Polish Priest ended up becoming the recently deceased Pope Paul. The German soldier is Benedict…I think
Patrick (8c54d0) — 9/20/2006 @ 5:08 pmOn a serious note (seriously), I always check the question of the day in the San Francisco Chronicle website, just to see how lefty that town’s populace really is. I was stunned to see the Pope question response: 72% thought the Pope had nothing to apologize for. I actually thought they weren’t too far gone. Then I saw today’s question, “What do you think of hugo Chavez?” Dangerous loud-mouthed leftist: 38%. Champion of the poor and anti-imperialist: 46%. They’re too far gone.
