Palestinians Kidnap Steve Centanni of Fox News

Filed under: Scum — Patterico @ 4:59 pm

I’m with Allah. It’s stupid that this bothers me more because I’m familiar with the guy. But it does.

P.S. He has a link to a Democratic Underground thread where plenty of people are ecstatic. I’ve experienced a touch of this myself; there are people in this country who feel that if you disagree with their politics, you are less than human. You could be murdered by thugs and they’d clap and laugh.

Scum.

UPDATE: Here is Centanni’s bio.

  1. Yeah, me, too.
Why couldn’t it have been Rita Cosby?

    Yeah, I denounce it.

[I guess I’m just not in a laughing mood right now. I don’t see anything funny about this. — P]

  2. You know, there doesn’t seem to be much love lost between our friends on the left and us, but this is just a new low.

Some of the DU commenters were taking the death-wishers to task, but not many of them. Of course, couldn’t read the whole thing, because I’d have just puked.

  3. Scum? Naah! Slime. At least scum floats.

  4. I did a post on this today and linked to it. I understand the senitment in not wanting to, but I feel like this stuff needs to be seen by as many people as possible.

FYI, the comments at the HuffPo say the exact same things.

Thus (with comments 2 & 3) you have demonstrated
    your point.

  6. Why would it be stupid that it bothers you that someone that you know was captured by terrorists?

Even if he’s only a distant acquaintance, you know him as a person. Of course it would affect you.

It’s a real fight and he is a professional who was captured while doing his job bringing information to people.

There is a real possibility that he will eventually be released. Let us pray for that outcome.

  7. Recent stories have shown a greatdistaste and distrust of the
    so-called Main Stream Media.

Some pundits and commentators have gone so far as to accuse
reporters of facilitating enemy propaganda and at least sedition,
    if not treason.

Is this a case of “some reporters are more equal than others?”

    anonymous (ceebbb)

  8. I guess anonymous, Comment #5, feels that the kidnapping of Americans by terrorists is a political question over which people can disagree. Scum.

    nk (2ab789)

  9. If Lebanese, Palestinian, and Israeli citizens are to be viewed as
mere “collateral damage,” are we to view reporters as “victims?”

And I would think that negotiation (by that I mean Mr Murdoch’s
checkbook) to be far more practical than prayer.

(nk: all questions in matters of war are ultimately political questions. And resorting to ‘ad hominem’ remarks again
makes you no better than the people you criticize.)

  10. Some pundits and commentators have gone so far as to accuse
reporters of facilitating enemy propaganda and at least sedition,
    if not treason.

    And?

Is this a case of “some reporters are more equal than others?”

    No.

See stupid, nobody is arguing this outcome regarding your first “point.”

There are 10 year olds who can see through your “logic.”

  11. For what it’s worth CAIR is calling for the immediate release of both Link here

Let’s all pray that Steve and freelance cameraman, Olaf Wiig are released soon. And un-harmed.

    Rovin (b348f4)

  12. Would one of those “10 year olds” be near your computer?
You seem to be having a bit of trouble with that “logic thing.”

But seriously, folks, we have seen some very cold-blooded
comments about dead civilians in this Israeli-Palestinian-
Lebanese imbroglio. I am only asking: why all the emotion
about an over-paid, blow-dryed reporter wearing way too
    much make-up.

    anonymous (ceebbb)

  13. That’s right; this extremism on both sides is getting out of hand. I was listening to conservative talk radio this morning and a caller claimed that democrats are worse than al Qaeda. The radio host didn’t challenge it either.

    Psyberian (dd13d6)

  14. Ridiculous.

    Patterico (50c3cd)

  15. “why all the emotion about an over-paid, blow-dryed reporter wearing way too much make-up.”

The emotion is over the vermious thinking of scum such as yourself. BTW: If you demonstrate humanity then you may complain about ad hominem.

    nk (d5dd10)

  16. I assume that for you, nk, one “demonstrate(s) humanity by
quickly, completely, and humbly agreeing with you.

    Let’s see if this helps:

“You’re right. I’m wrong. I give up. You win.”

    Can you breathe now?

[Of course, with each insult you type you seem just a little more desperate and a little more unsure of yourself.]

  17. You seem to be having a bit of trouble with that “logic thing.”

    How would you know?

You’re so busy engaging in moral equivocation that you can’t seem to think clearly.

But seriously, folks, we have seen some very cold-blooded
comments about dead civilians in this Israeli-Palestinian-
    Lebanese imbroglio.

    We have?

    Where?
    When?

Where are you getting civilian casualty figures?

  19. I would never presume to have the standing to discuss “morals/
morality;” I was merely pointing out what should be obvious:

    hypocrisy.

And perhaps you could adopt that last comment as a battle-cry:
    “Vindication is ours!”

[Good luck. I suspect you’re going to need it.]

  23. If Lebanese, Palestinian, and Israeli citizens are to be viewed as
mere “collateral damage,” are we to view reporters as “victims?”

I’m sorry, I didn’t know Steve was “damage” of any sort. Do you know something we don’t know? Because we have him as kidnapped by a radical islamic terrorist group, not struck by flying debris or caught in a crossfire.

Are you saying that he’s not a victim? Why?

    Pablo (08e1e8)

  24. There is little if any difference in the left wing democrats and the terrorists. They would all destroy this country to satisfy their ego. They have supported the terrorists for years so who expects them to stop now. Slick Willie gave North Korea 4 billion dollars which was used to develop a nuclear weapon. I don’t know exactly what Madam Al-not-too=bright gave Iran but Slick traded China the most up to date missile guidance system for a campaign donation. The left wing democrats in this country are far more dangerous than Osama and his entire crowd of 2 Arabs and millions of leftie democratic supporters.

    Scrapiron (a90377)

  25. – Well it seems that Mooney has issued an internal memo telling everyone not to mention the kidnapping on air. Apparently the freedom loving murdering pukes have decided they want to cut off the truth entirely. Staging and photoshopped pics, loyally published by the al-QaedaNYT and al-AP, al-Rotters wasn’t working.

    – Listening to the Progressive Slugs, its getting harder and harder to find any light between them and the Jihadists.

    – And AnonImanAss, your Marxist idiotarian crap has had its day, and no one’s buying it anymore. Go play over in LiarDogFake with that idiot Hampsher, and the rest of your assholiest gaggle. I’m going to thouroughly enjoy watching Joe beat your chickenPussie heads in, come the fall elections.

    Oh really?

    Name the show, buddy boy.

I suspect you are exaggerating; if such a comment were made by someone on the right via live radio, the sound bite of such vileness would quickly be blasted all over the left side of the internet as proof that conservatives are filled with hate.

I expect you to back up that accusation. Name the show.

  30. Pat,

It’s stupid that this bothers me more because I’m familiar with the guy.

That sensation is really not that odd ,,, it’s called compassion for one’s fellow man. Now bottle that feeling and apply it to the innocents that have been hauled off to Gitmo as well as the innocent victims of terrorist acts or the people being killed in Iraq by death squads brought to life by our policies as well as those who suffered under Saddam or even the innocent Americans wrongfully imprisoned by overzealous prosecutors (& before you even go there, please don’t forget to inform your readers that most places crimnal justice systems aren’t as evenly funded as Cali’s more liberal version) as well as the victims of violent crimes.

I’ll pray for these two kidnapped men as I pray for all those being wrongfully confined tonight.

Though the acts of violence are not funny, I did get a chuckle out of the part of this post where Pat stoops to a cheap violation of Kevin’s law or, in other words, engages in some nutpicking.

    Macswain (2aadc0)

  31. The boss says
I’m with Allah. It’s stupid that this bothers me more because I’m familiar with the guy. But it does.

It doesn’t make you or anyone else stupid, it makes you friggen human. I have a lot of lowlife family, and though I won’t give a thought if they die silently in a gutter, I would wonder what the hell happened to make them national news.

That comes from a real cold blooded jerky of a man; However, I would never take joy in ANYONES suffering, unless it was a small handfull of people that I know personaly.

    Wickedpinto (d099bd)

  32. I’m not sure which is worse: kidnapping journalists (or anyone else, for that matter) or the idiot lefties who want to use this thread to discuss civilian casualties of a war like they get bonus points for taking potshots at the War in Iraq and/or American foreign policy. Or the ones who call compassion “hypocrisy.” Geez, idiots, give it a rest.

    sharon (63d8f8)

  33. Paul, I don’t remember the name of the show or even who was the host (but I’m sure it wasn’t Rush). Take it or leave it, but I resent your insinuation that I’m lying. Just listen to right-wing radio for a while – I’m sure it will happen again.

As for left wingers being all over it if it really happened, I guess we’re falling down on the job. It wouldn’t be the first time.

    Psyberian (dd13d6)

  34. I am deeply saddened by the news that Steve Centani has been taken captive. A rock solid reporter, a gem of a human being as well. Please pray for his safe return.

    Bad Samaritan (6a9b23)

  35. Yes psyberian, a caller’s comment to a radio show has something to do with kidnapped journalists. We’ll just accept your assertion of that even though you can’t document it or even assert the show in which this occurred.

Just like Rueters publishing fraudulent photos has something to do with Fox News.

In the meantime please continue to post about how “this extremism on both sides is getting out of hand” because this brilliant commentary of yours makes so much sense and demonstrates such a higher level of thinking and intelligent discourse.

Good grief this is so asinine. Saying it is childish doesn’t do justice to elementary kids everywhere.

    Dwilkers (a1687a)

Er, except it isn’t obvious and you haven’t pointed it out.

    Otherwise, great job, idiot.

    The Ace (8154cd)

  38. Paul, I don’t remember the name of the show or even who was the host

Isn’t it funny how you liberals always seem to have a problem documenting these alleged nefarious actions on the part of conservatives?

    The Ace (8154cd)

  39. Isn’t it funny how you liberals always seem to have a problem documenting these alleged nefarious actions on the part of conservatives?

There seems to be a pattern developing with Psyberian in particular – when lefties are shown to be dishonest, deranged, perhaps even dangerous, that he immediately comes up with some equivalent case of conservatives doing the same thing – always adding something to effect that “we should condemn both sides when they do this”. In every case they are either obviously not equivalent or documentation of such is mysteriously missing.

    Gerald A (add20f)

  40. but I resent your insinuation that I’m lying

Go back and read what I wrote, Psyberian. I didn’t say you were lying, I said

    I suspect you are exaggerating

Look up the meaning of the words “lying” and “exaggerating.” They happen to be different.

Just listen to right-wing radio for a while – I’m sure it will happen again.

I’ve been listening to “right-wing” radio for nearly fifteen years, buddy boy. Comments like that don’t go unchallenged by radio hosts if they don’t want a)the sound bite blasted all over the lefty web sites and MSM radio/broadcast media b)to lose their audience c)to, in turn, lose their jobs.

If such a comment had gone unchallenged, documenting such an allegation wouldn’t be necessary.

    Paul (65259e)

  41. Psyberian,

Let me help with a memory exercise, shouldn’t be too hard, since this was just yesterday.

Do you listen to “right-wing” radio on the radio or the internet?

If radio, how many “right-wing” talk shows are on in your listening area? Which ones do you listen to? Usually, there are 2 or 3 shows each “morning” on each station, depending on local programming. And you have eliminated Rush.

If internet, open your browser and hit CTL-H, browse for sites opened yesterday morning.

Another approach might be to name all the “right-wing” shows you listen to each morning. Perhaps the readership can identify it for you.

  42. Our anonymous doesn’t seem to understand the difference between non-combatants regrettably killed when the combatants hide behind them, using them as human shields, and someone deliberately kidnapped and whose death, if it occurs, will be cold-blooded murder.

Yeah, in both cases, the dead person is no less dead; one hopes that the reasoning powers of our liberal friends is sufficient to see beyond that point.

  44. This is the first comment I have left here. Seems the quality of trolls here is lower than that at Wizbang. There, those that favor the mindless left are much more adept at their false arguement and hypocracy than the two resident fools you have here. I must admit, the response is at least as good. I wonder what kind of idiot on the left, listens to right leaning talk radio? It can only be frustrating to have their arguments shot down day after day.

I will give them credit: the resident lefties that comment here don’t quickly slide into name-calling when badly losing a debate. However, in some cases, they don’t know when to quit.

    Paul (cfe284)

  46. Steve Centani – paisan, stay BRAVE. I am praying for you. Just a note to everybody else, I cannot believe there’s been such little on Fox or CNN about this. I saw one 2-minute clip showing Steve’s family pleading to for any information and for his safe return. WHY IS FOX BEING SO SILENT ON THIS? And yet, all we hear about today is john karr????? Steve Centani is one of the best newscasters/reporters and did good reporting and no hezBaalah boot-licking througout the “conflict” in the middle east the past month. I agree in prayer with all you folks for Steve.

The clock is ticking for Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig and speculation about who actually kidnapped them was pointing to al-Qaeda in Gaza. At least that was what was thought until the Jerusalem Post reported “The two Fox News employees…
