The “Real” Reason for the Code Red Alert

Lefty blogger John Aravosis notes that President Bush has declared a Code Red Terror Alert for flights from Britain, and concludes that the motivating factor was Joe Lieberman’s loss in the Connecticut primary. Not the fact that Britain just broke a terror plot to blow ten planes out of the sky, or the fact that five suspects remain at large. No, it was Joe Lieberman’s loss in the Connecticut primary. (Via Pejman.)

If only Democrats took the fight against terrorism as seriously as the fight against Republicans.

UPDATE: And: if only journalists treated our enemies with the same hostility and skepticism that they treat Bush.

UPDATE x2: In comments, Allah notes that Hamsher [UPDATE: actually Christy Hardin Smith at Hamsher’s blog] has said the same thing:

See we’ve had a foiled terrorist plot overnight in Britain. Glad Scotland Yard was on the case…and what a coincidence it was foiled just as Lieberbush lost the election. Thank goodness for good police work.

(Via Seixon.)

UPDATE x3: More Hamsher [UPDATE: “Pachacutec” at Hamsher’s blog], via Ace:

The national security issue boogeyman is dead, dead, dead.

Or is that potential terrorist victims? Well, whatever.

UPDATE x4: Meanwhile, don’t forget about the Dearborn terror arrests — which involve people who, as Power Line reminds us, had “$11,000 in cash, flight manifests, information on airport security checkpoints and 12 tracphones.”

UPDATE x5: Or the 11 Egyptian students who all failed to show up to Montana State University.

Granted, there may be nothing to this story — but we shouldn’t be too quick to simply assume it, in light of current events.

UPDATE x6: Two of the quotes above were incorrectly attributed to Hamsher; in fact, they came from other posters on her blog. Thanks to DWilkers for the correction.

  1. It wasn’t just Aravosis. Hamsher said the same shit. Check Seixon’s roundup.

  2. When I think of lefty bloggers like this, I’m reminded of what the whole world looks like to a proctologist. There is a very narrow, self absorbed focus to those folks who suffer from Bush Derangement Syndrome.

  3. One of the great mysteries of life is do stupid people know they are stupid.

    I think not.

And if you think Arovosis and Hamsher are stupid, read their commentators. It will give you a new perspective.

Or… more of same old same old. Leftists’ idiocy.

  5. Whoa, Hamsher’s mod is editing (deleting parts of) my comments:

“How do I put this… you people, including the host of this blog, are so stupid.

“That was SO predictible, moron. You (I’m assuming you’re Christy Hardin Smith, idiot lawyer) believe that Joe Lieberman’s loss caused this terrorist alert… nothing to do with the SECOND Islamist attempt to simultaneously bring down multiple airplanes using liquid explosives (the first such plot was broken up by Philippine and U.S. intelligence in the 90s and this one by British, Pakistani, and U.S. intelligence.

“The most valuable thing, perhaps the only thing, that I can bring to this conversation is the observations that you are stupid as mud.

“Seriously, are you not stupid as mud? What possible basis would you defend yourself as not proving yourself to be a moron?

    “I’m curious.

    “Thanks!”

    I have no idea why.

Now, now. Next thing you know m.croche will be by here, decrying your violent expressions. Or, he would be, if I didn’t just get through banning him the other day.

  7. You know, can even do satire on these people any more, because no matter how ridiculous and supposedly hyperbolic you make your idea, someone will inevitably post something similar somewhere on a lefty blog with all sincerity.

  12. Jaysus on a Pony …

If this was really all a Bu$Hitler plot then the bust would have happened three days before the primary to make sure Lieberman won!

There is no way on God’s green earth we can trust national security to the current Democrat Party.

  14. Hmm.

I’m surprised to see both you and Allah make this error Patterico. The conspiracy minded ‘lieberbush’ comment is in a blog post by Christy Hardin Smith, and the “The national security issue boogeyman is dead, dead, dead.” is in a blog post by a guy calling himself “Pachacutec”.

Neither comment is by Jane Hamsher.

I saw some other center-right bloggers making this sloppy mistake yesterday too. I’m guessing its getting passed around and people are just quoting it without checking it first.

  15. So what happens when narcissistic mental illness threatens national security? Yes, these narcissists are unquestionably stupid and sick. Yes, because they are so thoroughly stupid and sick, they cannot grasp the full extent of their own stupidity and sickness.

I, however, refuse to to place myself and my family in danger because malignant narcissists are too stupid and sick to get over themselves and deal with the threat. What happens when mass psychosis takes over substantial segments of the population? What do we do to safeguard our homes and nation from mentally ill people dedicated to aiding genocidal Islamofascists?

  16. Aravosis has it backwards. Karl Rove didn’t order his puppet government in Britain to arrest these guys in response to Lieberman’s loss in the primary. He ordered them to delay the arrests in order to cause it, thereby guaranteeing that at least one deep blue state would be stuck with a batsh*t crazy nominee instead of a sane one. Karl’s no dummy; he knew Lamont would never win if Connecticut voters had a long enough memory to remember that there is any such thing as international terrorism. Coming up on the five year anniversary of 9/11, he was just about there. Nabbing the guys before the primary would ruined everything.

  17. Thanks DWilkers. I don’t read the FireDogLake blog, although I have seen it once or twice before, and do remember being vaguely aware that there are different posters there.

I entirely relied on Ace for the second quote (since I couldn’t find it myself), but I visited FireDogLake to verify the first quote — and missed the fact that it was from someone else.

    I have updated to correct.

  18. NP.

I have to say, I read that ‘it a conspiracy based on the Lieberman loss’ thing yesterday early and thought of commenting there but decided not to. Then I read it again twice later to see if they’d updated it or made any corrections or qualifiers or anything but no, they didn’t.

It is stupid beyond normal Fisking. It has multiple layers of utter stupidity – transparent political stupidity on at least 2 different levels.

It is shockingly stupid even for the vapid, emptyheaded crap you can find on lefty blogs from time to time.

I’d say its the stupidest thing I ever read but I’ve read some really incredibly stupid crap on the net. But man oh man, that is post is really, incredibly stupid. I thought it was a bad joke until I read the comments.

    Dwilkers (a1687a)

  19. UPDATE x5: Or the 11 Egyptian students who all failed to show up to Montana State University.

That’s a bit misleading. There were 17 students from Egypt who were going to the university under that program. 11 of those 17 didn’t show up.
(I’m not saying those 11 shouldn’t be kicked out of the country – at least!)

  20. If this was really all a Bu$Hitler plot then the bust would have happened three days before the primary to make sure Lieberman won!

Well, we now see the benefits of being incoherent and stupid.

You just saw whatever comes to mind (based on infantile emotions) logic, facts, and seriousness be damned.
