“Ridiculous” is inadequate. How about “outfrisching Frisch”? You expect this kind of behavior from guys who hang out in neighborhoods where you don’t dare to stop at red lights.

What I can’t understand is why anyone at this late date would work with Leopold. Aside from his conspiracy-crazed politics, he has a certifiable record of alienating the outlets he writes for and causing them grief.

I first learned about Leopold’s fabulism from a colleague who was covering California’s power crisis in 2000-2001. The reporter was at first chagrined to be scooped by Leopold, and had great respect for his drive and initiative. Then it turned out those great scoops were fiction. And Leopold’s been spiraling down the journalistic sewer ever since.

I read the chapter of Leopold’s book he put online at his eponymous site, and found it quite amusing. Here’s an excerpt:

“I hate thin-skinned crybaby reporters. Journalists are supposed to be tough, like overcooked steak, thick enough to deflect all the harsh criticism. That’s what every editor tells you when you start out. But most of the reporters I know can’t take a beating, especially if it’s from a competitor, like me.”

I notified several MSM outlets about this current blogosphere revelation and I only hope they will follow up. There are several key points that have been exposed about Johnson and Leopold, but many more to be explored.

Johnsons “resume” bears further scrutiny as there are “gaps in employment” that normal HR professionals would inspect. Johnson’s “Truthout” article about his sudden recollection of having served in CIA boot camp with Valerie P.(lame), which was offered as a statement to a “Bipartisan group of Democrats?” (look up the Truthout article)
