Larry Johnson Returns (UPDATED: Seixon Receives Death Threat)

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 12:24 am

[IMPORTANT UPDATE: This is what I alluded to last night: blogger Seixon, a 23-year-old American living in Norway, has received a death threat from someone who called his cell phone. The caller ended the guy by saying: “You’re a dead man.” Seixon believes it’s Jason Leopold.

Christ on a popsicle stick.

I don’t know Seixon, but I have an impression of him as a solid and honest guy. By contrast, Leopold has faced accusations of sock-puppetry, and Joe Lauria has described Leopold as

a troubled young reporter with a history of drug addiction whose aggressive disregard for the rules ended up embroiling me in a bizarre escapade and raised serious questions about journalistic ethics.

Wow.]

Check out the latest at Seixon. Larry “Your mother killed herself because she hated you” Johnson writes Seixon:

I know where you are living. You forget that I do work for the European Union and friends in Interpol. I’ve offered you a mature way to deal with this situation. You’re obviously too immature and inexperienced to recognize the offer for what it is. Too bad.

And I have a feeling this is not the end of it.

The background on this increasingly insane situation is here.

I think it’s time for everyone reading this to write their local Congressman and Senator.

UPDATE: Ace has more.

UPDATE x2: More on Johnson here.

  1. Don’t think that Protein Wisdom link goes where you want.

  2. These people are nuts. They need medication and restraints.

  3. Isn’t it odd how Larry Johnson pops up every time someone criticizes Leopold?

    I’m just sayin’…

  4. Patterico could you please send me an e-mail or some way to contact you privately? I have a short message that I prefer to keep private. If your e-mail is on your site, apologies, I can’t find it.

    Thanks

  5. Somebody ought to draw up a press packet on Larry Johnson.

  6. See-Dub,

I think Goldstein’s permalinks are screwed. I substituted a link to my previous post on Johnson.

  7. […] UPDATE: Ace has disclosed that the above post is related in some way to this post, so you might as well know that too. Bottom line: I’d stay tuned to Seixon today if I were you. […]

  8. You know, if this really is Leopold doing this, going around posting that nasty anti-semetic stuff, his own personal info etcetera, he really is crazy.

No I mean really crazy. Bark at the moon crazy. Cheney and Elvis are watching my house in a convertible crazy. There’s a guy with antennae coming out of his forehead riding an elephant in my garage crazy.

    Dwilkers (a1687a)

  9. Wow that second link is a doozy, but I would question Larry’s claims about the Pablo thing. Pablo was killed in 93, to the best of my knowledge, Larry wasn’t a member of Centra Spike, or Delta (the real groups that helped to take down Pablo), not to mention to the best of my knowledge Larry wasn’t active CIA during 93.

    I could be wrong though.

    Gabriel Chapman (6d7447)

  10. Edit:

to clarify, Johnson says one of the members of his group was involved with the Escobar hunt, it wasn’t Larry himself.

    Gabriel Chapman (6d7447)

  11. Threatening a blogger is the very least of these people’s crimes. Evidence suggests that current and former members of the IC and diplomatic communities have conspired with journalists to unseat a sitting American President. And not a single one of these traitors has been indicted.

Isn’t that a bigger issue than a former CIA officer afflicted with BDS threatening Seixon?

    Sirius Familiaris (93f35d)

  12. Seixon’s updated for the day.

He got a death threat over the phone.

Your statement is getting close to what I see. These are the hounds surrounding the major player(s) and these are the people striking back because Rove was NOT indicted. I want to see something done.

  14. What we have got here is someone that somebody used for their own purposes to push their agenda. Howeve r they misjudged their messenger and they are now reaping the havest of their endeavors.

People dig deep and follow all the offspring of this situation. It’s roots and ramifications are more that a little important.

You may be taking this as a blogwar spat, but if you look at the context it is much more than that. Connect the dots.

What we have is a person that was supposed to get out the talking points, but who proved to be a screw loose less than acceptable conduit. Now damage control is switched into the major sweat pump mode.

This really has a chance to bunk and debunk many crapola senarios.

Lots of chips being put on the table for such a nondescript event.

Don’t dish this off, it could portend something important.

    SlimGuy (ea6549)

  15. This is simply disturbing and unacceptable at any level. This crap has to stop. Apparently exposing sock puppetry hit a major nerve to a select group of crazed asshats.

Patterico – If you have any suggestions on what I can do as a commenter – send e-mails, make some calls to whoever – sign me up.

I live in the San Francisco area – I’m willing to help.

  16. I too got an email from Larry Johnson after leaving a comment on his site: Here it is in full:

“so certain I know nothing about you or where you live? you kooks are
entertaining, I’ll say that. moronic kooks, like you, even more so.”

    The guy is a crackpot.

    Jane (5a66ce)

  17. […] Too many people are beginning to fall into an “I have a blog and I’m not afraid to use it,” mentality, and that thought is morphing into an I know where you live and where your children sleep mentality. […]

The Anchoress » Circle is not holding in the blogosphere (1b383c)

  18. Tactics like this were perfected during the Clinton years when Clinton team played hardball with potential witnesses in the Paula Jones case.

Calls in the middle of the night, surveillance, calling relatives, veiled threats – same thing that went on a decade ago.

These people are either certifiable or there is something that they are trying to hide.

    Rick Moran (aca3c5)

  19. Wow! This all reminds me of juvenile kids posting things at a gaming forum. Problem is, these are grown-ups with what seem to be mental issues who unfortunately have the means to follow through with the things they threaten.

To be honest, I’m really surprised something like this hasn’t happened before. Sounds like blogging can actually be dangerous, and I don’t say that tongue-in-cheek.

  20. JUMPING IN WITH BOTH FEET…

I almost feel like starting with the old saw “Once upon a time” except there’s nothing remotely amusing about what I’m going to write about. The facts in this matter are so outrageous, so bizarre that if they weren’t true…

    Right Wing Nut House (5ada7f)

  21. Thanks for those links Chuck. Normally when testifying before congress a person is sponsored or invited to testify. Do you know who might have been Johnson’s benefactor in his house testimony?

    tom scott (e91ab8)

  22. Tom, the testimony was before a sub-committee and I cannot find anything referencing who the sponsor might have been. Here’s the makeup of the committee:

    http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=108_congressional_directory&docid=cdir108_txt-65

    Scroll down about halfway.

    Chuck Simmins (1741c2)

  23. This is ridiculous.

    nk (06f5d0)

  24. A guy in norway got a death threat from a guy in america? thats awful. Insane even. But that doesn’t, of course, excuse wrongful behavior.

    actus (cdb389)

  25. What wrongful behavior are you worried about, actus?

    Pablo (08e1e8)

  26. There are two reasons for behavior like this; money and mental illness. Leopold may be crazy but I suspect Johnson falls into the other category. I’ve been keeping an eye on the Congressman Jefferson story. Joe Wilson has some links to those African scandals-in-waiting and Larry Johnson may too. Here’s one link but I’ve seen more. I suspect that somebody is threatening these guys’ rice bowl. That can bring out behavior like this. Leopold may not even know what is going on.

    Mike K (6d4fc3)

  27. What wrongful behavior are you worried about, actus?

Could it be the death threat to someone in norway from a guy in america? I think so. What else could it be?

    actus (cdb389)

  28. It was the usual lonely night and I was getting the usual buzz from the usual bottle. I was refreshing my email for the 100th time, when a message came through from a client. As expected, they wanted me to track down some sock puppets. I’ve got a rep on the net for being a pretty good man with a server log. It was the usual ugly story, denial, bargaining, anger, cell phone death threats….

    Fred (a02a89)

  29. Could it be the death threat to someone in norway from a guy in america? I think so. What else could it be?

Oh, I dunno, how about … just about anything except the death threat to someone in Norway from a guy in America?! Unless, of course, your original point was supposed to be that a guy in Norway getting a death threat from a guy in America is not self-excusing.

    Xrlq (6a3c55)

  30. actus’ comment was pretty obscure but I thought he was implying that the distance between antagonists diminished the threat. If that’s what he meant then apparently he read past this:

I know where you are living. You forget that I do work for the European Union and friends in Interpol.

    or this from Ace:

I am prepared to ratchet this up several levels. I have not spent the last twenty years working with the U.S. military and the intelligence community to accept this kind of nonsense from a wet-nosed 24 year old coward.

    the threat to a freeper:

    You
should be aware that one of our group helped track down
and kill Pablo Escobar and other middle eastern terrorists.

Yeah, you know, a guy in America and a guy in Norway. I think the implied threat is: No matter your location in the world me or my friends can hunt you down and find you.
    Am I misreading you actus?

    tom scott (e91ab8)

  31. Insane even. But that doesn’t, of course, excuse wrongful behavior.

Per the last discussion where actus was taken to task for putting the insanity excuse before the condemnation, he is now disclaiming up front that the insanity doesn’t excuse the “wrongful” behavior.

Explaining actus. I am an editor, so rewriting or explaining obscure prose is my job. Even so. I might need a few seconds to recover from that.

BTW actus, I’m still a woman. In case your pronoun checker goes off-kilter again.

    Anwyn (8f969d)

  32. As others have noted, Johnson always seems to turn up to defend Leopold, ever since the “Karl Rove in handcuffs” disaster. Johnson is (or claims to be) a CIA insider. Anyone else wonder if Johnson was the source of the bogus story that was such a humiliation for Jason Leopold?

If so, and if Leopold spilled the beans, it could seriously effect Johnson’s career as a CIA expert on TV. Johnson would have a strong incentive to keep Leopold in his corner to prevent this.

    Doc Rampage (47be8d)

  33. I notified several MSM outlets about this current blogosphere revelation and I only hope they will follow up. There are several key points that have been exposed about Johnson and Leopold, but many more to be explored.

Johnsons “resume” bears further scrutiny as there are “gaps in employment” that normal HR professionals would inspect. Johnson’s “Truthout” article about his sudden recollection of having served in CIA boot camp with Valerie P.(lame), which was offered as a statement to a “Bipartisan group of Democrats?” (look up the Truthout article)

Many more gem’s to mine here.

    Rooster (aa1065)

  34. Oh, by the way Patterico, I referred the MSM to your site as well as Seixon as your commentors linked the Larry Johnson profiles which need further investigation.

    Rooster (aa1065)

  35. Jason Leopold?

Seixon’s selling himself short … it had to be Bill Clinton.

After all, he whacked Vince Foster and Ron Brown.

    [Cue the inner voices].

    Macswain (2aadc0)

  36. Unless, of course, your original point was supposed to be that a guy in Norway getting a death threat from a guy in America is not self-excusing.

Seems wrong to me. Don’t know about the rest of the folks.

    Am I misreading you actus?

Interpol and the US intelligence seem like baddasses to me.

    actus (cdb389)

  37. Oh, Actcus making no sense again? Gymnastics because he made a comment with a point that was so obviously lame even he realized it? Shocked.

  39. What I can’t understand is why anyone at this late date would work with Leopold. Aside from his conspiracy-crazed politics, he has a certifiable record of alienating the outlets he writes for and causing them grief.

I first learned about Leopold’s fabulism from a colleague who was covering California’s power crisis in 2000-2001. The reporter was at first chagrined to be scooped by Leopold, and had great respect for his drive and initiative. Then it turned out those great scoops were fiction. And Leopold’s been spiraling down the journalistic sewer ever since.

I read the chapter of Leopold’s book he put online at his eponymous site, and found it quite amusing. Here’s an excerpt:

“I hate thin-skinned crybaby reporters. Journalists are supposed to be tough, like overcooked steak, thick enough to deflect all the harsh criticism. That’s what every editor tells you when you start out. But most of the reporters I know can’t take a beating, especially if it’s from a competitor, like me.”

    Bradley J. Fikes (e619fc)

  40. “Ridiculous” is inadequate. How about “outfrisching Frisch”? You expect this kind of behavior from guys who hang out in neighborhoods where you don’t dare to stop at red lights.
