Deb Frisch: Her Gums Aren’t Done Flappin’ Yet!

Ms. Frisch, the toddler-threatener, seems less than repentant. Her blog is open for business, and (h/t nk) we have three more posts for our viewing pleasure. There’s this one:

The point of resigning is that it is something I was thinking of doing anyway. I want to stay in Eugene, OR where moonbats rule instead of living in Tucson, AZ where moonbats are in the minority. So my point is not that you should feel sorry for me but rather you should lay off the stalking like the emails to the head of the psych department at the University of Arizona, the nasty, threatening comments at the various rightwingnut blogs that have jumped on this “story.”

The department head said he would deal with this on Monday. No one has formally accepted my resignation yet. I’ve just submitted it. I understand there are many, many people out there who will want to know how the University of Arizona responds to my offer to give up my temporary gig teaching psychology next year. I will let you all know on Monday or Tuesday.

I’m just asking y’all to leave me alone and go stalk another moonbat.

And this one:

Sheesh – this is really not fun being the lightning rod for unhinged rightwingnuts. But the dust seems to be settling. I just told my parents about what was going on. They read my blog sometimes. My mother told me I was grounded AND I had to wash my mouth out with soap.

And this one:

A guy from Fox News named Richard Carbery emailed and wants to interview me on the phone on Monday. It’s almost as exciting as when I was interviewed by Richard Harris for NPR. I will try to find a copy of that interview and post it.

The dept head at the UA formally accepted my resignation this afternoon.

Rightwing nutcases with nothing better to do on the weekend might want to stop harassing University of Arizona administrators. Just a thought.

Looks like someone at TalkLeft is siding with Mr. Goldstein. But here’s a commenter named bigunit12 who gets it:

On one hand, what she wrote was wrong. But, on the other hand, it was only word. How many dead Iraqi mothers,American and Iraqi fathers, and Iraqi children are conservatives responsible for?

It is unbelievable that a comment saying I would not care if harm came to your child is such a crime to the rightwingnuts when they’ve been happy as clams to send American dupes to murder, maim, rape and torture (yup folks – depriving people of electricity and clean water is a form of torture!) Iraqi children for four years.

I’m not sure there’s room for a pool in our backyard, but I’m consulting with Deb Frisch to find out for sure. Nobody knows more about digging holes than she does.

  1. She’s really enjoying the attention she’s getting. That’s what she was looking for on Protein Wisdom. She’s really a sick individual. I’m just hoping that when all of this dies down, she doesn’t move on to another teaching job.

  2. I guess that’s now the new SOP for congenital sociopathic idiots like ol’ Deb.

First go way out of line with disgusting threats. Whine that you are the victim when you get caught, and then try and see if you can somehow bring up “Bush lied, people died!!” as a way to deflect criticism.

Deb, I am not a rightwingnut, I’m a liberal. Stop trying to make it seem like your revolting, unacceptable behavior and non-apology are in any way, shape or form justifiable.

Get yourself hospitalized, get some therapy, do whatever it takes to cure yourself of your obvious, out of control delusions.

As a former Sun Devil, I never thought I would say this…..but in defense of the University of Arizona and the city of Tucson, for those who have never visited the area, rest assured that Deb Frisch thankfully is not representative of the people who live there and lead decent lives.

My condolences go out to the state of Oregon.

  3. E-mails to the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon State University, Corvallis, Portland State University, Portland, and others are appropriate at this point, I think. Sorry the links are not as specific as they should be–I’m not sure where emails would do the most good. I will look a little more specifically in the next couple of days.

  4. Shaun’s right. She finally got what she was after and more. She’s far from done yet and doesn’t even have the association with UofA as a restraint.

  10. I came across this old post where in Frisch comments and runs. She later comes back and claims that she forgot that she had posted there until she googled herself and found the post, to which another commenter responded, “What kind of loser googles herself?”

If that doesn’t SCREAM out her need to be important by leaving her mark wherever she can so that she can be found, I don’t know what does.

  15. Ok, I figured out how to do it. Don’t click on a link (no offense Patterico) go the old fashioned way by typing http://www.proteinwisdom.com/ in your address bar.

    nk (57e995)

  16. Nope. Tried to type it into the address bar, and I get this message:

    The following error occurred:

  17. Jauhara, Comment #17:

I just got in again just by clicking on the link in my comment 16. First, check your spelling. Second, clear your browser cache to make sure your browser is no bringing up an old file. Third, don’t bother. Jeff is is willing to make nicey-nice with Deb for pie and a bottle of tequila. It’s a private fight or a private joke and we were fools for getting involved in it.

    nk (57e995)

  18. Nah, he’s trying to be “classy” by treating it like no big deal.

I’d have her hauled to jail, myself, and drink the tequila and eat the pie outside the courthouse before attending her arraignment. But, to each his own.

    Patterico (50c3cd)

  19. it’s a dns thing. Think of it like this: he just moved, and now all of those virtual white pages out there have to update their entries to list his new phone number. some are quick, and have the new number listed. Others are slow, and are still showing the old number.

    gultig (529e6c)

  20. I’m with you. I take back the “fools” comment. It should never be foolish to be outraged by such remarks about a child.

    nk (57e995)

  21. I wonder if this isn’t something she did just for the attention. She sure seems to be enjoying it. I wonder if she wasn’t planning to resign anyway and just pulled this stunt so she could play the “victim” (which she’s doing bigtime) and draw attention to herself. The DOS attack seems awfully coordinated; makes me wonder if the whole thing was planned. Which, if true, makes her comments and behavior even more reprehensible.

    John Somers (f549b3)

  22. Best guess is that the PW site is under a DoS attack again. PW can only be accessed by lucky timing right now. You’re slipping in when the server is able to recognize the request out of a constant stream of spurious requests. The server error is the usual indication of that (it could be indicating some other problem the new host is having, but I’d bet on DoS.).

I never thought she was done and I don’t think she’s in this alone. Not now and maybe not even at the start. She definitely still has or has a new agenda. This isn’t over, there’s still a lot of dicking around going on, and it’s shaping up to end very badly.

  26. At some point this has morphed from a public service to a vendetta. The sane among us have to be careful of that.

  27. Frisch has a history of cyber stalking and threatening Conservative bloggers:

“One day, some cheeky blogger is going to be offed by a psychopathic blogger. Will it be a scuffle@left2right? idunno.

i hope to hell it ain’t me, i gotta tell ya.

but i feel kind of guilty for not blowing myself up on the steps of the lincoln memorial when i lived in d.c. while i was doing out pork for sam..so in a way, i WANT some futhermucker A-hole to off me because i pissed him off in the blogosphere.

  28. Hmmm. Gordo, a liberal (though not whacked out Kos leftist) who blogs from Oregon, is leaving (supposedly just temporarily) for Tucson, while Dr Frisch (who is whacked out), wants to head for Oregon.

The conspiracy theorist in me detects a non-coincidence! :)

    Dana (1d5902)

  29. A quick check of Dr Frisch’s site meter indicates that she’s had a total of 57,329 visitors, 40,470 of whom have visited in the past week (the last three days, really). It’s pretty bad when more than two-thirds of all of your visitors are there to see what kind of a nutcase you are! :)

I’m thinking that we ought to declare her fifteen minutes to be over.

    Dana (1d5902)

  30. Jane,

No hun, a “vendetta” is what the LLL’s do-stuff like DOS attacks, cyber and regular stalking, spamming, etc.

No, Deb Frisch is a sick individual. She deserves the slapping down she is getting and if this attention whore would just shut up on the subject it would die down. No, she continues to be a human flamethrower.

You see, she has now nailed herself on her cross and claimed the title of “victim” like all good LLL’s do when confronted by their aberrant behaviour. The title “victim” to people of her ilk is their version of a “get out of jail free” card-it allows them (in their minds)to behave anyway they please and never accept responsibilty for it. Her LLL supporters chime in with their petulant childish version of “look at the speck in your eye” while ignoring the telephone pole in theirs.

Ms. Frisch behaviour in this matter is beyond the pale. She could never win nor defend her arguments so resorted to saying some very nasty and uncalled for things like people of her ilk do, but she went way out of bounds on this. What she does not understand is that there are consequences for her actions. I realise that she lived in the gated community of the mind known as academia where this kind of behaviour is acceptable as long as it stays in their “community”. Once it goes outside of it it runs into a little thing called reality. Even the most LLL on the board of reagents of a university knows that behaviour of someone like Ms. Frisch opens them up to bad publicity and possible legal action. Even they understand they need money to operate if you get my drift.

what is the minimum number of bots needed to take down a website? if you’ve been threatening 2-year olds in public, how do you find people who will help you attack a site? are these just zombie computers whose owners are unaware of what they’re doing? is this a game anybody can play in, and if so, how does an ordinary guy “get game”?

Hmmm, doesn’t seem to describe the usual progressive attitude toward hate speech. The rest of his comment displays one of the problems with moral relativism as practiced by the left: It’s ok, as long as there’s someone doing something worse.

Oh, I don’t think the penalty of losing one’s job is a minor one.

A better example would be Mary Mapes. Dan Rather was a multi-millionaire and was at least considering retirement anyway; his ratings had been in the toilet for a few years. The real deal was when he was, pretty much unceremoniously, dumped from his final CBS duties.

The lovely Miss Mapes, on the other hand, wasn’t all that wealthy, and wasn’t really close to thinking about retirement. If memory serves, she didn’t get to resign.

    Dana (1d5902)

  38. I believe Ms. Frisch is almost famous enough now to hang out with Cindy Sheehan down in Crawford next month. But a couple of more weeks of this unrepentitiveness and she’ll be a big enough cause celeb on the left to earn her spot at the campsite (though if she makes the same sort of statements towards Bush she’s made toward Jeff and his child, odds are she’ll be bunking at the McLennan County Jail in Waco before the month’s out).

    John (81be8d)

  39. With a couple of exceptions, most of the comments have been about her obvious lunacy, but the thing that strikes me the most about her is her combination of childishness and outright stupidity. She could just substitute “NEENER NEENER NEENER” for most of her comments and achieve the same effect.

    CraigC (9cd021)

  40. And the unkindest cut of all was from her father:

“I’m really ashamed of my daughter, what she’s become,” said Don Mapes, who had a falling-out with his daughter years ago for undisclosed reasons. “She went into journalism with an ax to grind, that is, to promote feminism — and radical feminism, I might say — and liberalism.” Source: KVI Radio, Seattle, WA

Others were shown the door at CBS: Senior Vice President Betsy West, Executive Producer Josh Howard and Senior Broadcast Producer Mary Murphy.

Only one remains a blogosphere noun: “Did Reporter X Just Pull a Mary Mapes?”

  41. On one hand, what she wrote was wrong. But, on the other hand, it was only word.

It’s actually a perfectly liberal form of CYA, to claim that your offense was nothing big, really, after being called on what you intended to be a devastating insult.

Consider the Moonbats who burn a flag because they hate America and everything it stands for, and then when a Vet shows up, they say “It’s just a piece of cloth.”

If it was just a piece of cloth, or just an empty threat, then why did they burn/make it in the first place?

    mauser (00bb19)

  42. Is it just my lack of internet savvy or has Deb Frisch disabled comments on her 7/9/06 post “shaddup and go for a walk”? Here’s her opening paragraph:

Unbelievably, many rightwingnutcases are still on this story, asking me to apologize over and over, criticizing me over and over even though Jeff accepted my offer of a bottle of tequila as a peace offering.

I read Protein Wisdom and I thought Jeff Goldstein said he would consider her offer. Maybe they worked things out in the meantime, or maybe it’s wishful thinking on her part.

    DRJ (d049e2)

  43. Ms. Frisch now says,

Here’s a comment that sums up how nutty the right is – condoning violence against me because I made a joke on a blog about the death of a nasty rightwing blogger’s toddler.

    Joke? Hardly.

    Teabag (50409b)

  44. And she’s sorry for what she said and has made peace with him, but he’s still “nasty.”

    Jim Treacher (c3be1b)

  45. Deb is still trying to have it her way. She went cyberpostal, then tried the line that she was just trying to give jeff a ‘taste of his own medicine’ … didn’t fly … thensaid PW comments “started it first” … didn’t fly … then said it was all a joke … still doesn’t fly, especially as she trolls sympathetic lefty sites were she whines about how SHE was threatened with violence … but is also trying to “apologize” to Jeff?

    Say what??

Does Oregon (where’s she’s been posting from) have a version of PC 5150??

    Darleen (81f712)

  46. then when a Vet shows up, they say “It’s just a piece of cloth.”

Because that vet might not be so sure that he fought for freedom of speech.

    actus (6234ee)

  47. Actually, moonbats are a sizeable portion of the population in Tucson. Pima county (and Tucson) is heavily Democratic, and has been since the 1880’s. The county went blue in both Bush elections, while most of Arizona was sizeably red. However, Oregon is certainly moonbat central, so if she would feel more comfortable there, we’d be more than happy to provide her with a sandwich for her journey out of Arizona.

Someone can be wrong and sick. Remember, as long as SHE knows “right from wrong” her behavior cannot be excused via mental illness.

I believe she does know she crossed lines and she doesn’t care. Being an actual sociopath doesn’t absolve her of her ultimate responsibility.

But she has to be stopped from being in any position of power over students ever again.

    LOL…crossposted…

I think my statement takes care of the mental illness angle.

I just want this woman off the streets by any legal means, even if it means commitment to a behavior health center for evaluation. And a record of such psyche work disqualifies her from teaching.

[Humor me. Give me a comment that is 100 percent condemnation. Nothing that could be interpreted as an excuse. Just one line. — P]

    Darleen (81f712)

  55. Deb Frisch’s statements on JeffG’s site concerning his child are vile, vicious, contemptible, irredeemable and proof that this woman is totally unfit to remain in academia or hold any position of significant power over others, now and in the future.

[That didn’t seem that hard. But it’s just flat-out impossible for actus. It’s funny to watch. — P]

  58. Remember, as long as SHE knows right from wrong her behavior cannot be excused via mental illness.

I know. I’ve said many times that if she isn’t mentally ill, then her doing things that make us think she is mentally ill means that she is doing very wrongful thingss.

But its just flat-out impossible for actus. Its funny to watch

Saying something is wrong is apparently not enough. Haven’t I said that the answer to “are you now or have you ever condemned her” is yes?

I said what she did was wrongful. How wrongful, as a measure of its wrongfulness, I said it makes me thing she’s crazy. Ie, very wrongful. Is that a reservation to you? To me that’s a measure of how wrongful it is. A high one.

    actus (6234ee)

  64. It’s hilarious watching him wriggle out of a simple and unreserved condemnation.

  65. You just *cant* bring yourself to issue one, can you, actus? You cant!

I said. What she did. Was wrongful. Why do you refuse to see what is in front of you?

[Because it isn’t there. Never once have you condemned her without buts or mental health excuses. Come on, actus. Do it. do it right now. Type out an *unreserved* condemnation. Right now.

  67. Never once have you condemned her without buts or mental health excus

I said. What she did. Was wrongful. I did right in the post you are replying to. But you can’t read whats in front of you. Because you want to think i’m making excuses, lumping me in with those that actually think she’s mentally ill and should be committed.

[Prove it. Find and link a comment where you condemned her without reservation or mental health excuses. Don’t just say you did it. Prove it. And quote the whole comment. Or, just type a new one. It was easy for Darleen. It’s impossible for you. You just won’t do it. Hilarious — and very, very sad. — P]

    actus (6234ee)

  68. Find and link a comment where you condemned her without reservation or mental health excuses

I just did it right now when I said that what she did was wrongful. “very wrongful.” But you can’t read that.

    Hilarious and very, very sad.

I’m sorry. But I don’t jump for you.

[Heh. Your idea of an unreserved condemnation is this: “I’ve said many times that if she isn’t mentally ill, then her doing things that make us think she is mentally ill means that she is doing very wrongful thingss.” Very unreserved! You can’t being yourself to condemn this woman’s actions without reservation. Not even once. Just incredible. — P]

    actus (6234ee)

  69. Actus:

    “I’m sorry…”

    You certainly are.

    De Doc (944fd2)

  70. You cant being yourself to condemn this womans actions without reservation.

I said it. Again. What she did was wrongful. Very. I’ve said it from the beggining. I’ve even said it when people wanted her committed, reminding them that “[y]ou people need to stop excusing her wrongfullness.” This was, apparently for you, reservation. It was, for you, reservation for me to point out how others might be excusing her wrongfullness.

But perhaps I need to point out that wrongfullness is wrong?

[Saying “I said it in the past” is not saying it. That’s what you keep doing now, hiding the fact that every time you’ve said it in the past, you have couched it in excuses and explanations. And your comment about excusing wrongfulness was sarcasm — an argument that mentioning her possible mental health issues, which you have no idea whether she really has any or is just a a jerk, is not minimizing.

It’s so easy, actus. I asked Darleen to humor me and she easily wrote a comment of condemnation. I ask you to humor me and write one, and you talk about how you did it in the past, even though you didn’t. I am simply pointing out that you have never, ever, even once, condemned her behavior here without reservation. And it would be so very easy to do so. You just type it out. Right now.

    But you won’t. — P]

    actus (6234ee)

  71. Its so easy, actus. I asked Darleen to humor me and she easily wrote a comment of condemnation.

I’m not going to play your game of humor. I’m not going to humor your ignorance. I’ve made many direct references to her wrongfullness. Both in my original and other statements. I’ve said it without reservation many times. I’ve even pointed out other’s potential reservations. But thats not enough for your humor. Others might like dancing with you, but not me. I’m not going to acquiesce to your inability to read what i’ve read.

  72. Ric,

    The new dns is http://72.232.201.58/.

According to Jeff he’s been under another DoD attack since this afternoon. It’s probably been since yesterday, but his new hosting service did not recognize it for what it was until today – probably because it’s reached a point where other sites hosted there are affected and complaining. That’s how it usually goes.

If I recall correctly, the first router in the path that actually accesses the net goes to a lookup table and translates the alpha domain name to the actual IP. So if you got to the new IP once using the domain name, your path has the right IP for the domain. Using http://72.232.201.58/ instead of the domain name http://www.proteinwisdom.com would only help if the first router you hit has a lookup table with the last weeks PW IP. If it gets a raw IP, no translation is needed and you go to the right place.

Most old IP references have aged out at this point, so getting to the PW site should not require the IP. http://www.proteinwisdom.com should be no less likely to reach him than http://72.232.201.58/. Again, if your path translated the domain name once correctly, it will continue to do so.

Run of the mill DoS attacks are attempts to overload the proccessor controlling the target servers by using up all the bandwidth available with spurious requests for attention. They do it by co-opting numerous servers, but smart DoS attacks use a lot of co-opted servers but each only to a limited extent. The desired effect is cumulative. Otherwise the co-opted bandwidth slows down the valid users of that server and be noticed. One reason why DoS attacks occur more often on weekends is that commercial servers are more easily co-opted and it isn’t noticed during non-business hours.

Even during a DoS, since incoming requests queue up, a valid one will get through now and again before your outgoing server or browser times out (you can tell which one by the error message). It’s not a matter of using tricks or different browsers, just the luck of the queue. If you really had to get to a site, you can set things up so your browser stops attempting to make the connection before it timesout and immediately retries until a connection is made. You’d just be contributing to the problem though.

Hope all this helps understand what’s going on and the crap shoot connecting to PW has become. Just to stress the point, I believe PW has been under a new DoS attack as soon as he came back online.

  73. I’ll take both doors.

I’ll condemn Frisch’s tactics, Frisch herself, and also anyone supporting her without reservation.

I also think and have thought from Monday or so – recorded in the comments on Jeff’s site, that she is mentally ill and that Jeff should have shut her down by banning her at the outset. I knew just poking around her online trail the first day no good would come of screwing around by humoring her grinning insanity. She had an agenda and was not going to give it up as long as Jeff provided her a forum.

I think her agenda has been modified, but not satisfied. She had a bad night Thursday worrying about legal repercussions, but figured out (correctly in my opinion) that would probably not go anywhere. Nothing has hurt her to this point. No downside that she recognizes. She placed no real value on her position at UofA, and on reflection, found she couldn’t care less about losing it.

Frisch isn’t done. When the current brouhaha starts to fade, she rev it up again on PW if she’s allowed to by Jeff. The statements then may be more carefully crafted – she can learn – but I’d bet the farm they’ll also be magnitude worse than anything so far.

Frisch sees herself as some lefty version of Ann Coulter, but I think she’s a Cindy Sheehan clone and I feel the same way about Frisch as I do Sheehan. Right now neither is integrating with the real world. They don’t even hear the cautions sent their way. Both should be on locked door floors somewhere until they can reconnect.

  75. You mean if you cut and paste it from another comment full of rationalizations, excuses, buts, and I already said it nonsense?

How bout the one where I said she shouldn’t be excused for her wrongfulness?

[BZZZZZZZT! I already explained that one read as sarcasm. Someone else talked about her mental issues, and you sarcastically said they shouldn’t be excusing her wrongfulness — i.e. when you constantly coupled your condemnations with references to mental illness, you were, according to me, excusing her wrongfulness. Still not one example after maybe a dozen invitations by me for you to provide a categorical denunciation. Because — as I think I may have mentioned before — you just can’t bring yourself to categorically condemn threats of violence directed at two-year-olds. You just can’t do it. — P]

  77. just passing through,

I know most of that. Thanks for the explanation, though.

What I am saying is that DNS has not propagated to the branch of the net I’m on. When I ping proteinwisdom.com it pings 64.73.177.100 — the old number.

When I tracert proteinwisdom.com it uses the same (old) number. If I tracert 72.232.201.58 it eventually (13 hops) gets me to proteinwisdom.bluetrident.net, which is Jeff’s new host. The two tracerts are the same up to hop 5: 12.124.211.141, which does not respond to whois. After that the paths are completely different.

If you know who I should send the info to to see if it’s of use in diagnosing the problem, let me know here or at warrick.locke@gmail.com please.

    Regards,

When Deb was cyberstalking Cassandra, she would switch IP addresses. So banning Deb’s initial IP might not work.

    Darleen (81f712)

  79. Jane,

If that were the case then websites like Kos would be going through what Jeff’s has been.

Hopefully you will note that subtle difference.

Of course the left is now resorting to their old, childish and very tedious tactic of pointing out the microbe in every one elses eyes yet try to tell everyone that telephone pole in theirs is just a “fashion statement” in an attempt to defend this “woman”. They have no common sense, no concept of perspective and all in all increasingly remind me of a bunch of temper tantrum throwing children. Severely disturbed, violent temper tantrum throwing children.

  82. Darleen,

True, but the effort should be made.

    Ric,

keep in mind the disclaimer that it’s been a few years since I took the course.

You probably know this already, but the issue won’t be with 5: 12.124.211.141. That’s just the place where the old and new IPs start down different paths. Up to there, both IPs share the same path. The problem is in the first node somewhere out on your branch that has a router with a lookup table. It hasn’t had the DNS tables updated yet. A lot of IT people don’t update DNS tables that often, but schedule it every couple of days. Being the weekend, your problem server/router may not be updated until some guy shows up for work in the am Monday.

If you wanted to send an inquiry, the first IP that appears in the list would be the place to send it. I wouldn’t bother. It’ll probably be corrected in the normal course of events before anyone would read and respond to an email. It is the weekend.

  83. Patterico,
Actus, at his most defensive, is still harder on her than Jeff is.

    Actus,
I believe you are very young. Most people — the people you will most likely get on a jury — will look at “what did you do” and not “what was your state of mind”. They will apply strict liability to threats of death against, and sexual innuendo in relation to, a two-year old.

    nk (f58916)

  84. Ric,

I am having the same problem BTW. I have to use the new IP to get to PW, and it only works sporadically. PW is still fighting a DoS I imagine. The new IP times out most of the time. The domain name doesn’t work at all and gives me a server error, which says that the target either doesn’t exist or is offline. I didn’t bother with pinging. Since I know PW is online, the problem has to that the domain name is being parsed into the old IP.

    Two different issues entirely.

    Just Passing Through (b14004)

  85. Ric,

The IP and DoS discussion has imposed on Mr Patterico’s good graces long enough but I’ll beg his indulgence once more.

  86. I condemn what she said unequivically.

I think she’s batshit crazy. I think she’s an attention hound who, unsurprisingly, is now being emboldened by fellow travelers who are slowly and carefully rallying around her.

And if I thought she was a legitimate threat, or that I was unprepared to deal with her WERE she a legitimate threat, I’d be more up in arms.

But at this point, she’s just a preening imbecile cashing in on her preening imbecility. So I don’t need to say much more.

    Jeff G (881746)

  87. [No. It’s like you won’t unreservedly condemn Frisch’s threats against a child. — P]

And I don’t have to indulge your reading. Sorry. I’ve said her wrongful behavior shouldn’t be excused. I know you enjoy dancing, but i’m not going to dance with you.

Still not one example after maybe a dozen invitations by me for you to provide a categorical denunciation

What if I were to just call her behavior wrongful? Is that enough? Because I’ve done that for a while.

when you constantly coupled your condemnations with references to mental illness, you were, according to me, excusing her wrongfulness.

But this is the one that really gets me. Even when I explained what the mental illness means to me. Thats its not an excuse, but a measure of wrong — ie, its a very wrong thing that she did, so wrong that it made me think she was nuts. Do you just refuse to see that? Or do you not understand it? Or do you think i’m incorrect to feel that this could be a measure of wrong? Do you think that its not enough of a measure, not a good one?

  90. Jeff G said:

But at this point, she’s just a preening imbecile cashing in on her preening imbecility.

That’s Sheehan. She’s cashing in because she has handlers who keep the outward expressions of her mental illness controlled enough to keep her apt to their purposes. A preening imbecile to be sure, but coherent enough to be useful.

Frisch has no handlers. No governor is installed. Runaway open loop. The left as you say is slowly, carefully, and guardedly starting to support her which she selectively interprets as approbation. She showed only the briefest moment of self-control Friday and has been filtering out any cautionary advice, even that coming from the left, at this point. Don’t discount the possibilities she might think are reasonable options for extending her 15 seconds of fame into 15 minutes.

LOL One guy saying, “just give me an unequivocal condemnation of Deb Frisch,” then you saying, “I did. What if I did?” is a conversation? Wow, you should get out more often.

Looking at it from the outside, it looks far more like a troll unable to say the simplest things such as “I condemn Deb Frisch for making such a disgusting threat against another person on the Internet.” It wouldn’t hurt, really. 102. I think the problem, actus, is that you guys can’t agree on what the definition of “is” is.

    Jim Treacher (c3be1b)

  103. Just Passing Through,

You misrecall: it’s the client (e.g. your web browser) that has to make the translation. It gets this information by asking whatever DNS server(s) your computer is configured to know about.

And actually, your explanation of DNS refreshing in #85 is a bit off the mark, too. No “scheduling” of DNS updates happens; it’s fully automatic and works like this:

    (1) An “authoritative” DNS server is one that is contains the actual definitions for a domain in its local files. It never has to ask anyone else for this information.

    (2) Any other server (e.g. the one at your ISP that your home PC may be getting its DNS info from) is “non-authoritative”. If you ask it for a name-to-address resolution that isn’t already in its cache, it finds out where the authoritative server is (never mind now), gets the information from it, and hands it back to you. It also takes the information and stores it in a local cache for a length of time as specified by the authoritative server. Until the value in the cache times out, the non-authoritative server is free to use the cached value to respond to requests.

    So when Ric says:

I am an aphid on one of the most remote leaf nodes in the entire network.

it’s really not relevant: his ISP’s DNS server (or his own, if he’s running one) is still obliged to dump stale cache records and re-ask the authoritative server(s), no matter how many or or few routers there are between him and anyone else.

    Kirk Parker (11c8c8)

  104. I wish you conservative wingnuts would just leave that poor woman alone. She’s suffered enough already. If Jeff hasn’t provoked her, none of this would have happened. You conservative pigs do 99% of all the threats and harassment online so shut the fuck up assholes.

  106. Unless you are projecting, no-one has accused you of being a wifebeater.

you’re not familiar with that rhetorical tactic? To ask your opponent “when did you stop beating your wife.”

  108. I enjoy a healthy debate with people whom I disagree with on political issues.
But it does become clear after a couple of posts, which lefties seek a mature exchange of ideas, and which ones are here to satisfy their personal pathologies.

I don’t understand why some of you good folks continue to indulge some of these left-wing trolls with the undivided attention they hunger for.

They’re like pigeons at the park—once they figure out you’re no longer feeding them bread crumbs—they’ll move elsewhere to get their fix.

    Desert Rat (d8da01)

  109. Patterico: I’m trying to see this your way, but I keep coming down on Actus’ side. What do you mean, exactly, when you talk about Deb Frisch’s “actions”?

1 – Do you mean “making threats against a toddler”?

2 – Or do you mean “knowingly, willfully, in a non-insane state of mind, fully aware of how evil the actions were, making threats against a toddler”?

Actus has condemned #1 unequivocably. He said that Deb Frisch’s threats were so bad that they suggest she might be mentally ill! That’s a flat-out condemnation of the threats, even if it leaves room for Deb Frisch to be less of a villain than a victim of her own sad mind.

But if you’ve interpreted it to mean #2, then I can see how leaving the possibility of mental illness open would be a “reservation” because it might excuse the guilt of the actions, in which case Actus is no longer addressing the same guilty actions that you are demanding be condemned, but actions that are the product of a failing mind.

I think most people assumed the words to have meaning #1, not #2.
