Blogger Threatens Jeff Goldstein’s Two-Year-Old Son

Dear God.

Some blogger — a psychology professor, no less — has made threatening comments about Jeff Goldstein’s son. Just to take one example:

[…] as I said elsewhere, if I woke up tomorrow and learned that someone else had shot you and your tyke it wouldnt slow me down one iota. You arent human to me.

[…]

So if you could just tell me the AGE and SEX of your tyke, Id be stoked!

Thanx!

Lord.

This woman has problems. How would you like to be one of her students?

Jeff has much, much more.

Unfortunately.

P.S. My friend Roberta says I don’t blog about my kids enough. My wife says I blog about them, and our personal life, altogether too much. This is a good example of why my wife says this — and why she may be right.

UPDATE: Jeff’s site has been under a DoS attack (two, actually) for much of the day.

How curious.

UPDATE x2: Much more here. The woman has apparently been forced to resign. She blames Goldstein, of course. And some unhinged leftists are defending her! For example, the “Liberal Avenger” says that it is not “an enormous crime against decency” to threaten to shoot an innocent two-year-old child because you dislike his father’s politics.

I am speechless. Apparently, some leftists will defend absolutely anything, as long as it lines up with their politics.

  1. I have spent decades working in American universities and I can tell you that there is nothing surprising or isolated about this woman’s sickness. Psychology indeed. The academy is society’s sick man, and because of tenure and the fact that the sick are systematically replacing themselves with the even sicker, it is refusing the only medicine that will save American higher education.

Too damned bad for any students who might actually want to learn something in school. As far as contemporary faculty go, they really can go to hell.

  2. I was reading some of the threads on his blog where this woman posted and she was getting progressively stranger as the posts went on. Definitely unstable.

My guess is that he isn’t afraid of her actually doing anything – nor should he be.

  4. Jeffy already exhibits signs of paranoia, so this is really setting him off. She knows just how to push his buttons. That said however, Im not saying that she should have done that (assuming Jeffys tale is true).

Ann Coulter wannabe Michele Malkin is doing more than her share of damage in this department. Unleashing her hate horde on a woman who then later committed suicide is soft terrorism. And Mad Malkins not even being apologetic about it either. Lowlife. http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/07/06/malkins-folly/

[Incredible. Some academic is physically threatening Goldstein’s son, and you’re virtually yawning. Meanwhile, Malkin publishes a public official’s contact info, some scumbag at Reason writes a pathetic post trying to connect that to the official’s suicide, and you fall for it. 6. Pysberian, out of the five people you talk about, Malkin, Coulter, Denton, Goldstein, and the commenter making sickening and threatening remarks about Goldstein’s son, there’s only one lowlife. Hint: it isn’t any of the first four. Defend or deflect again and you will fall into the same category.

  7. Psyberian,

Denise Denton deserved criticism for creating a cushy job for her partner, and for failing to provide campus security for the military recruiters when the university knew well in advance that trouble was possible.

Suicide is the coward’s way out. If you want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for the devastated people left behind. Suicide is contemptable.

  8. She is one twisted sister. I read through all the comments. The way Jeff’s readers had all her information including her picture (the picture was from Darleen who also comments here) and had even forwarded it to the FBI before the evening was out was a marvelous thing in itself. I had thought them to be a bunch of rowdies but they took this dead serious.

  9. your wife is right. listen to her. security comes from personal rules of engagement, not from guards or guns, and information is a weapon too.
you don’t know how many and what kind of freaks are out there. just when you think you’ve seen the freakiest thing in town, something else comes along to blow your mind. california law protects prosecutors from having their addresses disclosed on certain public databases, but the law doesn’t reach the well-known stalker service websites (there are other techniques you can use to make yourself almost invisible to them, as a “privacy fetishist”, maybe i’ll comment on them some time).
here’s something else that may or may not be news or make you happy: nobody really gives a damn about your personal life. you are by no means the only blogger to succumb to the narcissistic impulse to inflict, e.g., the details of your inability to get chocolate ice cream/waffle cones at the wherever on an innocent, unsuspecting universe. many blogs have moments of autoconversation akin to robert deniro in the men’s room in “taxi driver”. are you talking to me?

Out of respect for Patterico, I’ll refrain from responding in the manner you deserve.

The reason JeffG didn’t ban her is because she was begging for it. So, we started ignoring her taunts and she ramped it up all out of control.

That’s when I went a googling and found out this is a pattern. She stalked my Cotillion sister, Cassandra for weeks, alternately begging Cass to ban her and saying things like Cass’ husband was a babykiller, or being rational.

And she did much of the same thing to Prof. Bainbridge.

And that’s only a couple of the blogs she has stalked with vile, over-the-top flames — now for several years.

JeffG is “paranoid”? When it comes to ones own children, that’s a fine line you don’t want to be wrong about. Especially when this “professor” makes a habit of this threatening behavior.

And you’re just plain wrong about Malkin. I think Patterico is kind in attributing your remarks to gullibility.

This condemnation requirement so popular amongst the strident in blogland is ridiculous.

“WHEN WILL THE MODERATE MUSLIMS OF THE WORLD CONDEMN THE HEAD-LOPPERS?”

In my part of the world it goes without saying that beheadings and deranged threats against children are unacceptable. The condemnation is implicit.

  16. Thinking about Poster #9—the post starts off nicely about weird people in the blogosphere, and then veers into oddness itself. “Nobody gives a damn” about Patterico’s family postings, says #9. It is always amazing to me how many people think that their personal opinion constitutes natural law.

#9 may not care for personal posts. Fair enough. #9 can skip them. Or Patterico may not choose to write any more of them. Personally I don’t mind them (though I don’t believe that my opinion is necessarily the norm). Patterico’s post about the passing of his father, for example, was deeply moving and gave me a lot to think about regarding my own father.

Again, this is my opinion only. Patterico can post what he wishes, and readers can read or ignore as they please. Freedom for all, eh?

It seems to me that people often say “everbody” or “nobody” when they really mean “in my own personal opinion.”

  21. Liberal Avenger sez:

    The condemnation is implicit.

In some other world, you’d be right. But our modern world is one in which, for example, Palestinian terrorists begin firing rockets at civilian towns in Israel ONE DAY after Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, then dig a three hundred yard-long tunnel from which to launch attacks and capture hostages–and the U.N. “condemns” Israel.

So unfortunately, your statement is naive.

  22. actus, saying someone appears to be mentally ill is certainly not the same as a condemnation.

Really? To me there are two options: they either are mentally ill or they’re not. If they are, then there isn’t that much to condemn. Its just sad. If they’re not, then its quite a condemnation to tell someone that is sane that they are acting so wrongly as to seem insane.

At least that’s how I figure it.

But thanks for confirming to everyone how pathetic you are in your compulsion to be a mindless contrarian, even when the subject is sick threats made against an infant.

She came in swinging her PhD around like it was a big d*ck, which really failed to impress anyone at all. Then she started getting freaky. It got worse and worse over a couple of days, and then out of the blue she posted one completely lucid comment. And then the meltdown. There’s some seriously weird stuff going on in her head, it seems. Here’s a post of hers on a different blog from January of ’05:

“i hope to hell it ain’t me, i gotta tell ya.

  34. giving you the benefit of the doubt patterico, your “gleefully” is just a misapprehension and not a deliberate twisting of what i said.
i said that to underscore the disproportionate expenditure of resources (including 48 million dollars of my country’s money without my country’s advance permission) in comparison to the resource sought to be recovered, one israeli soldier, in a context where a dozen or so palestinian children had also been sacrificed as collateral damage by the same irrational decisionmaker.
about thirty palestinians have been killed so far during the most recent incursion, plus one additional israeli soldier who isn’t getting anywhere near as much publicity as the live one.
if you genuinely desire to make peace with someone, trying to empathize with their position is a good starting point. the palestinians have used captured israeli soldiers in the past for prisoner exchanges, which they looked to do in this instance until israel rejected it (so far) and killed about 30 of them (so far). at some point they may conclude that a dead soldier is less trouble than a live one.
as an american, i have to ask what’s in the best interest of my country? how about 1) real peace in the middle east that we don’t have to bribe the parties to undertake like we did at camp david, and 2) seeing our 48 mil covered. a more evenhanded approach between the parties would bolster our role as an honest broker and help secure our objectives.

  39. The Liberal Avenger noted that the lady appeared to be mentally ill, based solely on a single action; I’d give him the benefit of the doubt on this one, ’cause he’s claiming her action was insane.

And what LA didn’t tell you, even though he asked, directly, why Mr Goldstein hasn’t banned the lady in question, is that Mr Goldstein has banned LA from posting comments on Protein Wisdom. From LA’s perspective, it would have seemed to help his argument: “I got banned for making a snarky comment about X topic, while she didn’t get banned for threatening his kids.”

i’m surprised to see a demand for ice cream counsel here, as opposed to legal counsel/analysis/punditry. maybe i was wrong that nobody gives a damn about your insights into what i consider fluff. well, i can do fluff too, i think haagen-dazs is real good ice cream, particularly the chocolate and vanilla bean flavors, and i like to add stuff to it to make it taste better:
a little half-and-half mooshed in will give it a homemade consistency.
several drops of lemon juice added to the vanilla is transformative.
high end cocoa, e.g., pernigotti or valrhona, which you can get from williams-sonoma. if all you’ve ever had is hershey’s, you’ve never really had cocoa, and if you love chocolate, you owe it to yourself.
fruit-based liqueurs, grand marnier, cointreau, kirsch, slivovitz or our own great local pearjack. pomegranate juice reduction.
salt. some people are surprised to hear that adding just a little salt to your ice cream will accentuate its flavors.
can we do margarita recipes next week? everybody who has ever tasted them acknowledges that my margaritas are the best in the world.

[I don’t recall being dismissive of the deaths of any children. But I do question whose fault they are. If terrorists are going to fire rockets and then hide among children, then they are trying to create child martyrs, and it is they who don’t a damn about children’s lives. — P]

  43. Well, ADA has a perfect right to have choices of what he would like to read. My point was that this is Patterico’s blog, not ADA’s. If he doesn’t like Patterico’s posts, he can skip that post, or find another blog…or perhaps best have his own blog. The latter choice is best because then ADA can restrict all discussion to whatever he likes. He can even be as snarky as he likes on his own blog.

But this isn’t his blog, nor mine.

The blogosphere is all about personal choice. I mean, I don’t think that a lack of capitalization is an affectation. Not most of the time. It’s a choice, and if it bothers me, I ignore or skip it.

More the point of this thread, friends, I think it is deeply disturbing that Jeff Goldstein’s blog is out of commission after the bizarre attacks I have been reading about. The woman in question seems to post only to outrage others—I hope that she has not graduated to DOS attacks.

The person who attacked Goldstein is an idiot–as the very first comment on the site (by a liberal) notes. One lefty nut can’t be used to indict the entire left. If you want to play that game, the right is going to end up looking lots worse than the left is. (The left has no one to compare to Coulter, Liddy, Ollie North, Fox News…).

So: yup, this was crazy. Yup, the person needs to be condemned. Nope, it doesn’t show that the left is crazy.

This is a really easy point to see. Ask yourself how you would have assessed your own argument if an analogouse charge had been made against the right by someone on the left. My guess is that you’d have seen the reponse immediately. So why hold your own arguments up to a less-rigorous standard than that to which you hold your opponents’ arguments? That’s the essence of irrationality and tribalism.

[…] I haven’t written anything about the insane-acting psychology professor-slash-blogger who wrote several threatening comments to Jeff Goldstein and his young son, his pushback that cost the professor her job, and the subsequent DoS attacks that have taken his site down. It’s not for lack of interest. I’ve been following the story thanks mostly to posts from Patterico (here and here, then keep going) and Allah’s Hot air post. […]

  62. […] Dr. Deb Frisch is a part-time former psychology professor at the University of Airizona who used her university email account to levy not-so-veiled sexual and physical threats against a conservative blogger’s two-year old child. […]

  63. I don’t think any of those are creationist superstitionists like coulter. What other ways could they be similar?

    What other ways indeed?

  64. That was disgusting, but it was not a death threat — please cut the bullshit.

If you do consider saying that she’d rejoice in hearing of the kid’s death to be a death threat, what’s your take on this tid-bit by Thomas (admin of RedState, one of the biggest conservative blogs, not some obscure unknown nobody like this woman):

“I repeat: Should the entire American Left fall over dead tomorrow, I would rejoice, and order pizza to celebrate. They are not my countrymen; they are animals who happen to walk upright and make noises that approximate speech. They are below human. I look forward to seeing each and every one in Hell.”

By you standards of what is an expression of murderous intentions, isn’t Thomas in on par with Hitler and Stalin?

This stuff is the regular fare in mainstream conservative blogs — those with the largest audiences. On the liberal you’ll only hear it from people on the fringes that nobody reads.

  65. […] Deb Frisch tried to leave the following comment on my site. It was caught by the spam filter. (Recent background on her here, older background here.) It was left under the same IP address as the recent comments from her IP address on Jeff Goldstein’s and Ace’s site: 71.34.251.220. It was left under the moniker “WW” (”Word Warrior”) with Frisch’s correct e-mail and URL. […]

  66. Concerning the rash of happenings between Deborah Frisch and Jeff Goldstein, I am reminded of a saying “There is no fool so troublesome as a fool with wit”. I do not remember who spoke those words, but would gladly say so if I did.
Perhaps Jeff does say too much about his private information (family, etc.). As the police say when cuffing someone on a television show or a movie, “Everything you say can and will be used against you”. I, personally, would not say anything about my family life, children, etc. on the net. I do not like the fact I had to type my real name to be able to post. I do not believe my point of view on the subject matter needs a name attached to it. People with mental problems come in all political persuations.
Frisch is a degreed professional. Following and reading links arouind the net, it is my opinion she has made statements totally unbecoming one of her supposed stature. She certainly is good at ratcheting things, turning things away, leaving her blameless for her actions and statements (in her own mind, that is). In layman’s terms, she ain’t wrapped tight. That is my personal opinion. I do not wish to drag “anyone” or “everyone” along with me.
