In this video clip (h/t Allah), you see the Iranian Foreign Minister say:
We emphasize the peaceful nature of our nuclear weapons… I mean… of our nuclear power plant…
D’oh!

Yeah, that was frickin’ hilarious. Or would be, if he weren’t talking about an Islamic nation with a sketchy history having nuclear weapons.
Anwyn (01a5cc) — 6/15/2006 @ 7:41 amIt is hilarious, in a mordant, whistling-past-the-graveyard sort of way.
But not as funny as those Foggy Bottom-dwelling voluptuaries of tyrants who will explain away any such statement by our enemies.
We need more inadvertent Mein Kampf-style revelations and insights into the minds of tyrants.
Mike Lief (e9d57e) — 6/15/2006 @ 9:42 amIn case anybody thought I was being sarcastic, I wasn’t. I do think it’s funny. But also scary.
Anwyn (01a5cc) — 6/15/2006 @ 9:44 amAnd too right, Mike. I just finished Manchester’s first two volumes of The Last Lion. It’s incredible how many people totally discounted, or explained away, Mein Kampf, which was a far cry from inadvertent or inconsidered.
Anwyn (01a5cc) — 6/15/2006 @ 9:46 amAnwyn,
I feel like an optimist today, so I’m gonna look for something positive in this story … looking … still … looking …
Ok, I got one! The same Brits (as one example) who overwhelmingly approved of Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler at the time, and who were derided a soft and weak for it as compared to previous generations, came thru as truly courageous once the fight was on and denial was no longer an option.
You’d think it’d no longer be an option in this case, either, but … well, first as tragedy, then as farce. Let’s hope it takes less than a full nuking to make it clear.
