Yeah, That Guy Sounds *Perfect* for Congress!

Filed under: General — Patterico @ 1:12 pm

The L.A. Times has endorsed a Congressional candidate who once spoke of the “so-called Holocaust.”

P.S. So has the San Francisco Chronicle.

  1. That’s about par for a so-called “news” paper.

    Black Jack (d8da01)

  2. WhackCloskey is a freaking disgrace.

He is a nut-job bigot, Jew hating, holocaust denying anti-Semite. Whats worse is the willingness of so-called progressive papers like the Dog Trainer, San Francisco Commisar and the Sacramento Bee to COMPLETELY OMIT ANY MENTION of Mac’s prior disgraces when each paper endorsed him in the 11th CD primary over conservative GOP incumbent Richard Pombo.

I guess the papers reckon that it doesnt matter if a guy is a snivelling bigotted jew hater, as long as he hates Bush and Pombo, thats good enuff for an endorsement.

Heres some more background on this abject lunatic, complete with links…not sure if they’ll show up as hyperlinks tho:

Article #1: Machinations of the Anti-Defamation League
    (www.ihr.org/jhr/v20/v20n5p13_McCloskey.html)
Printed online from the website of the Institute for Historical Review, this is the signature speech for which McCloskey has recently become the favored son of the so-called “Historical Revisionism” movement promoted by famed holocaust denier David Irving and others including McCloskey. This speech was made at an IHR conference in Irvine in May 2000, and contains the following excerpts:

    • “Earlier here today I listened to speeches about the courage of men in France, Britain, Germany, and New Zealand who have spoken out against the commonly accepted concept of what occurred during the Second World War in the so-called Holocaust.

    • “The ADL does not want the facts to come out. They want to suppress any facts that are critical of Israel. You must understand that that’s their goal. Above all else, they want to preserve the “special relationship” between Israel and the United States; preserve a good public opinion of Israel on the part of the American people, so that the money keeps coming; defeat any political figure, such as Paul Findley or Chuck Percy or even Ed Zschau, who was defeated mainly by Jewish money in his bid for the Senate here in California. The ADL’s purpose is to discredit and to deny a forum to anybody who might jeopardize the Israel-U.S. relationship. So of course the IHR is a major bull’s-eye target. Now, given the extensive intelligence organization they’ve built up, I am almost certain that someone in this room is reporting to the ADL.”

    • “In the 1982 primary election race I lost the Republican party nomination for the U.S. Senate to Pete Wilson. He went up to the San Fernando Valley and made a promise to the Jewish leaders of that powerful Jewish area that if elected to the Senate he would favor Israel’s annexation of the West Bank and Gaza. That story was reported, but then absolutely hushed up. You’ve never heard the story since. The Jewish community has the power to suppress, either by advertising or control of the media, news reports that are hostile to Israel, and they have the ability to discredit anyone who speaks out. And that’s their purpose.”

    • “Yasser Arafat: a man of peace.”

    • “Democrats are far more beholden to the Israeli lobby than Republicans. Republicans tend to get their money from big business, and that’s sometimes corrupt. But in (California), if you’re a Democrat you can’t get elected without the support of Jewish money.”

    • “(Holocaust deniers) are doing something worse than criticizing the government of the United States; you’re threatening the security of the state of Israel. And the Jewish community is dedicated to preserve that state, and to destroy those who speak against it. Good luck!”

IHR characterized the conference at which McCloskey spoke and the Holocaust deniers who attended the conference in the most favorable of terms: Thirteenth Conference Marks Revisionist Renaissance (www.ihr.org/update/0007IHR4.html)

    • “As former Congressman McCloskey affirmed in his banquet address: ‘I came because I respect the thesis of this organization, that thesis being that there should be a reexamination of whatever governments say, or politicians say, or political entities say.’”

The website Zundelsite, named in honor of noted pro-Nazi Ernst Zundel, also
described McCloskey’s 2000 IHR speech in favorable terms:

    • “Former US Congressman, Pete McCloskey, was the featured Sunday night banquet speaker. He delivered a fluid and genuine speech, stunning at times in its frankness, about Jewish influence and financial control of the political process in America. He was not afraid to say ‘Jew’! He mentioned names of leading politicians who sold themselves to the Jewish Lobby, and he added that it was impossible to get elected in California without Jewish money. He excoriated the Anti-Defamation League for spying on and against Americans, detailing especially the case where a private investigator worked with the Israelis and the South African Intelligence agencies by spying on Americans while having the cooperation of law enforcement officers. He is bringing a class action suit against the ADL in this matter. His speech was warmly received.”

Article #2: Arafat’s Legacy Must Be a Palestinian State
    (http://www.cnionline.org/eyeondc/op-eds/arafats-legacy.htm)

This article comes from the website of the Council for the National Interest, CNI. McCloskey is the Chairman of this group. Its founding Chairman Paul Findley, describes the thesis statement of CNI: “The United States provides the support without which Israel could not maintain its repression of human rights and its territorial expansion. This collusive relationship severely damages the U.S. influence and credibility worldwide. It has led our government into a disgraceful practice of turning a blind eye to Israeli violations of both international and U.S. law, a habit widely noted by foreign leaders.”

    • “Like many great leaders, Yasser Arafat’s true greatness may not be realized for many years.”

    • “Arafat’s leadership and oratory not only kept his people together, but obtained the respect and sympathy of most of the world, save in Israel and the U.S.”

    • “…the road to peace in the Middle East lies through Jerusalem, not Baghdad.”

Article #3: The Need to Refocus Our Policy Priorities in the War on Terror
    (http://www.cnionline.org/hearings/neocons/mccloskey.htm)

McCloskey also wrote another rambling and incoherent article for CNI in January 2004, where he lays out all the ways in which he believes American foreign policy is being run by and for the state of Israel, to the detriment of U.S. national security. McCloskey claims that the multinational force led by the United States and Great Britain deposed Saddam Hussein in 2003 not to free the people of Iraq, but to protect Israel.

    • “In view of the fact that the alleged weapons of mass destruction possessed by Iraq in 2003 would threaten Israel a great deal more than the United States, I believe that it is highly possible we invaded Iraq last spring as much to protect Israel as to protect the United States.”

In addition to his speeches and statements, McCloskey is the darling of anti-Semitic websites and fringe groups.

Example #1: McCloskey and Hitler (www.ihr.org)– A picture of McCloskey and a link to for-sale copies of his Machinations of the Anti-Defamation League speech in 2000 is featured above advertised books for sale on the IHR website, including “Hitler’s Place in History” and “The Holocaust Industry” and “The Founding Myths of Modern Israel”

Example #2: On its website in June 2005 (www.ihr.org/rounduparchive/0506.shtml), the IHR promotes several books and articles sold by Noontide Press, with such titles as:

    “Gas chambers: Truth or Lie”
“Indian Human Rights Groups Finds Bright Side of Hitler”
“Wartime Aerial Photos Cast Doubt on Treblinka Death Camp Claims”
“Romans did not Invade Britain after All”
“Keeping up the Pace: Targeting the Wiesenthal Center”
    “Nuremburg ‘Confessions’ Under Torture”
“Israel’s ‘Knife in the Back Attack on America”

The same Noontide Press promotes and sells copies of McCloskey’s 2000 IHR “Machinations of the Anti-Defamation League” speech.

  3. The truth about the so-called holocaust, or hoaxacaust, is available at this link to the Arthur Butz website.

Spewing spwb take note and learn something.

  4. I see RJN is rabidly infected with the disease common to many extremests, of attacking the messenger instead of looking into the truth or accuracy of the message.

his post tells you everything you need to know about this guy, i think.

    “Hoaxacaust”?? Nice work.

did they teach you that in a madrassa? Or maybe you lived next door to MacCloskey for awhile?? Or maybe you have a charter subscription to
    Der Zundelsite.

For the record, RJN, the only editorial comments by me are at the very top of the post. Everything else is cites to and quotes from things WhackCloskey has ALREADY said.

If you want to object to my characterization of what the man actually said in speeches and writings that are widely available and have never been disavowed by Mac, go right ahead.

But I find it laughably amusing that all you are able to do is hurl invective pies, without bothering to address the issue of what MacCloskey himself has said about the holocaust.

and anyway, my original point was to note newspapers such as the Sacto Bee, SF Chron and LA Times that disgracefully lionized this clown have committed journalistic malpractice by deliberately and sassiduously avoiding mentioning any of these things Mac has said…things that in the opinion of many, make him signally unqualified to represent California in the US Congress.

Stick THAT in your lederhosen, RJN.

  5. It is always your kind that hurl the invective, and hate the truth. I parapharsed you a bit below.

But I find it laughably amusing that all you are able to do is hurl invective pies, without bothering to address the issue of the truth about the holocaust.
