Comments: Slow? Or Down?

Okay, it’s a weekend, and the blog has been a little slow lately what with my Internet connection being out and all. But I’m looking at my last 5 posts and none have any comments. I mean, it’s starting to look like the “Martini Republic” blog around here! So my question is: are you guys just bored? Or is the comment function down?

If it’s the latter, e-mail me at patterico AT patterico DOT com.

  1. Your 12: 56 PM post and everything subsequent just now showed up for me (1:20 AM). They weren’t here last time I clicked through at 10:40 PM or so–the site was topped off by “Patterico blocked by the military?”

Usually your site refreshes automatically when I come through–at least the number of comments changes–but maybe WordPress was down or slow during that time and didn’t show new content?

  2. Woo-hoo! I don’t know. I’m just happy someone’s talking to me.

  3. Knock, knock.
    Who’s there?
    Cargo.
    Cargo who?
    Cargo beep-beep.

Best I can come up with. Sorry, Patterico.

  4. What, is this bad jokes time?

Who is Irish, green, and lives outdoors?

    Paddy O’Furniture.

  5. Perhaps all of your readers are in the military and have been blocked šŸ˜‰

  6. I have a respiratory infection and have thus been sleeeeeping abnormally long periods of time. I did post in one of the Morales cruel and unusual discussions the other day. Not to worry, I’m sure people are just busy or sleeping.

  7. What, is this bad jokes time?

Q: How does an evil cow laugh?

    A: Moo-haha.

  8. By gosh we need more evil cows. Rally the evil cows so we can win this cataclysmic hideous mess the world is now in. All hail the cows, may they stampede the bad guys, since nobody else seems willing to do it.

  9. Patterico – i’m here, just … erratically so. I usually comment from work, and work has been busy the last week or two. (Which is why I mostly stayed out of the abortion thread – a shame, as I thought it was a good idea and a fruitful discussion).

  10. Once or twice recently, the page would not display the ā€œLeave a commentā€ section, but after refreshing the page a couple of times, it corrected itself.

Like Aphreal mentions above, I wish that Iā€™d commented more in the abortion posts, but that time frame was hectic for me. I meant to compliment you Patterico and everyone else who made the discussion beneficial.

Sometimes I stop commenting as much because Iā€™m afraid that I come across as too negative (or too much of an ass, if you prefer). At those times, I try to slow down and be choosier about my comments. In general, I like to try to make people think, but it can be hard to do without stepping on peopleā€™s toes. As I heard one speaker explain – I try to be the piece of sand that irritates at first, but in the end persuades a clam to make a pearl. (Well, Iā€™m not actually that grandiose – but you get the picture.) And I realize that many times, I just make an Angry Clam.

Patterico, if you give out points for anyone, Psy just earned them! šŸ™‚

  12. My turn. Two Irish guys walk out of a bar. What, it could happen!

  13. Patterico, did you say that you are on DIRECT TV Satellite? If you are, why don’t you go to channel 375, watch some documentaries there and do a spot on it? ‘Manufacturer’s Consent” is playing Monday. Do you think you could listen open-mindedly to someone who has been called one of the brightest men in America? You aren’t going to prejudge it are you? Take notes, and maybe follow up on your search engine to see if what he says are true or not.

  14. What do you call an Irish guy on St Patrick’s Day?

    You call him a cab.
