X-man,

Virginia's a wonderful place, the further you go south and west, the better it gets. Check out the State Parks, rent a cabin, go fishing, eat some BBQ, it's different from anything you find in California, or KC. Give it a try, check out Tangier Island, the Eastern Shore, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, the Mariner's Museum in Newport News, Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway. Take your time and smell the roses. Good luck.

Asinistra: lemme guess, you're a janitor at Camp Pendleton, and it takes you 20 minutes to walk from there to the beach?

Here's another thing for you NOT to understand, Patterico: how's an unhinged lefty like me manage to live on 5 unspoiled acres in Southern California just 20 minutes from the beach?

I'm sure there's something reasonably priced up in Modoc County.

Of course, that would mean moving a thousand miles from the Middle of Nowhere....
