Kate Michelman: Liar (I Know, I Know: Big Shock)
You still have to call them on it even when it’s utterly predictable. Jonathan Adler has the details.

Do you ever wonder why people tell lies that they know are going to be exposed?
Dana (71415b) — 1/22/2006 @ 3:54 pmA lie told often enough, particularly to an uncritical audience, becomes true to them.
How many people think that Bill Clinton was impeached for a blowjob, rather than for obstructing justice (the same thing that sent Martha Stewart to prison)?

Angry Clam (a7c6b1) — 1/22/2006 @ 6:59 pmA cigar will never be just a cigar again.
sharon (fecb65) — 1/22/2006 @ 7:03 pmTrue. But he never inhaled.
Actually, I knew a guy once who tried smoking a cigar like a cigarette- apparently nobody ever told him that wasn’t how it worked.
Obviously, that ended badly.

The days have long passed . . .
. . . when you could publish a blatant lie in a major newspaper and not have someone catch it and publicize it. Jonathan Adler of National Review Online caught Kate Michelman’s Anti-Alito Lie, a column in the San Francisco Chronicle, in which…
Common Sense Political Thought (819604) — 1/23/2006 @ 6:45 amSr. Xrlq smoked cigarettes in his early 20s, then gave it up a year or so before I was born. When I came around, he passed out cigars to all his friends and family, and one of his “friends” pressured him to smoke one himself. That was enough to put him off the wagon; he ended up smoking up all the cigars left in the box as though they were large cigarettes. He quit for good a year or two later.
Xrlq (428dfd) — 1/23/2006 @ 7:03 amThe difference: he eventually quit.
