Who’s This Guy?
Hey, who is the L.A. prosecutor who wrote this rebuttal to Captain Ed’s position on Tookie? It wasn’t me. Was it one of my colleagues, or someone from the U.S. Attorney’s office? Stand up and be counted!

This is one of the best arguments for the death penalty I have ever heard. The deterrent effect, especially on lifers in prison, is undeniable. It’s much more convincing than the cost-of-life-in-prison position.
transplanted texan (f9bdf6) — 12/15/2005 @ 2:33 amI agree with transplanted texan. Your colleague makes a powerful argument.
Dwilkers (a1687a) — 12/15/2005 @ 3:40 amIt’s, ah … Lucy Ramirez. Yeah, that’s it, Lucy Ramirez. She left the essay for me in a brown envelope, which I burnt after copying at Kinko’s. (The original essay, not the envelope — I’m cheap.)
Captain Ed (5b0bea) — 12/15/2005 @ 7:54 amI strongly favor capital punishment. However, the deterrent effect is greatly diminished when the application of the penalty takes 20+ years. Most death row inmates will (1) die naturally in prison; (2) die at the hands of another in prison; (3) get sentences reduced at some future time by a liberal court.
What we have today is better than no death penalty, but lacks the full force of swift and certain justice.
