Tookie’s Handiwork

Filed under: Crime,Morons,Nobel Peace Prize — Patterico @ 6:13 pm

Regular readers know that I am seeking a Nobel Peace Prize nomination, since I believe I am more deserving than murderer Stanley “Tookie” Williams. In evaluating our respective qualifications, I think that the public should be able to evaluate our handiwork. Mine is available on this blog. Flopping Aces has examples of Tookie’s handiwork, here.

  1. Naturally the clueless leftie/liberal parasites are pulling for this revolting sociopathic bastard Williams and the leftist propaganda organs are dutifully falling in line to echo and magnify the message, “killing inocent people is O.K. if you are black and supposedly suppressed

    What a load!

Thanks for posting that link to that excellent Flopping Aces site…

    Good work Patterico…

  2. Wow.

This sort of thing is the best argument out there in favor of the death penalty.

You got a long way to go to get a Nobel nomination with that kind of competition Patterico.

Do you have any idea how many people California has executed since it was reinstituted by the SCOTUS? Just curious. I was under the impression CA had the death penalty sort of in name only, and wasn’t executing any death row prisoners.

Down here in Texas we execute them so often it isn’t even news. If it gets covered at all its buried back in the City/State section.

  3. It is fairly rare in California, but not unheard of.

Hell, I remember back when we were still using the gas chamber. Those were the days.

According to the state department of corrections, there have been twelve executions since the reinstatement of the death penalty in the 1970s, with the most recent being Richard Alton Harris in 1992. I’m pretty sure he got the gas.

  4. Robert. Hmm, don’t know why I said Richard.

Anyway, he kept filing all these delay petitions, and the Ninth Circuit kept staying his execution. The Supreme Court finally had enough and declared that “[t]he application to vacate the stay of execution of sentence of death presented to Justice O’Connor and by her referred to the Court is granted, and it is ordered that the order staying the execution entered by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on April 21, 1992 is vacated. No further stays of Robert Alton Harris’ execution shall be entered by the federal courts except upon order of this Court.”

Smacked down. He, and the Ninth Circuit, were poster boys for why the AEDPA was a good idea.

  5. I don’t know if he’s seriously changed since these incidents. But, it’s time for him to go.

The real scandal is that it’s taken 25 years to get him to his final destination.

  6. Is that one of those things where when they say:

“No further stays of Robert Alton Harris’ execution shall be entered by the federal courts except upon order of this Court.”

    What they really mean is:

“What part of “NO” are you idiots having trouble with? Do not issue even one more of these bullshit rulings!”

    :^)

  7. The latest execution actually appears to be Donald Beardslee on Jan. 19, 2005. Here’s the complete list of death row inmates who have died. Quite a few have been from suicides.

That said, there have only been 12 executions (11 in CA, one in MO), while there are currently over 600 condemned inmates awaiting death, the most of any state. That’s why you hear California has a death penalty in name only.

  8. I meant the latest in California. Bardslee got the juice last night in North Carolina, and there’s a guy in South Carolina getting it tonight too.

  9. I’m not convinced “beyond all possible doubt” that Patterico as a juror would support the death penalty for Williams.

  10. I am.

  11. That must be a different Beardslee then, because this one was executed in San Quentin.

  12. Yeah, damn I fucked that up.

  13. Where Can I find an authorative source on the number of Supreme Court Justice nominees who have been filibustered, and those that were prevented from being approved, besides Abe Fortas

    Bernard Carlson (eb8b2f)

  14. #Yeah, damn I fucked that up.

Big time. Harris was the least recent on that list, not the most recent. I think he was the last one to get gas, though.
