Michael Newdow: Thumbs Down

Atheist and perpetual litigant Michael Newdow has made a one-man musical play about himself that had its debut before a 77-person audience at a high school the other day in Sacramento.

The Sacramento Bee reviews the play. Money quote:

But [Newdow’s] budding musical career, which he put on display in a one-man show before a sparse audience Tuesday night, may be cut short by, of all things, lack of God-given talent.

  1. Do you think that Dr. Newdow will sue The Sacramento Bee for using that phrase?

And how can Dr. Newdow possibly live in and willingly perform (?) in a city named after a religious rite?

  2. Hey, getting him to sue to rename “Sacramento” sounds like a fun project after he loses “In God We Trust” on money!

  3. Mr. Clam, Esq:

I’m not sure why he hasn’t sued to rename Saint Paul, Saint Louis, about half of the cities in California, and, that worst one of all, Corpus Christi.

As for his suit concerning In God We Trust on money, if he finds it offensive, I think he should be required to give up all of his!

  4. Newdow is being interviewed on Michael Medved’s show (listen here

He’s a great example of a bigot wrapped in legalese.

  5. I say, let’s sue San Francisco and make them change their name to Frank.

  6. Michael Newdow is wrong for going after the “In God we trust” printed on coins.

But I can give you an indication of why he could be motivated to go that far with it. I was reading a blog’s comments where an atheist and a Christian were arguing and the Christian charged the atheist with hypocrisy since “In God we trust’ is on coins, but you aren’t complaining about that!” The atheist responded; “OK then, that’s it – if I’m going to be called a hypocrite for being a little tolerant, then I’ll make a lot of noise about the reference to God on coins too!”

  7. That was awesome.

  8. Newdow didn’t come up with the idea of suing about the money- there was an identical lawsuit a few years back (I want to say 1998, but don’t hold me to that) in the 10th Circuit challenging using the motto on money. Probably because, you know, the mint is there.

    That didn’t work, obviously.

  9. A lack of a lot more than talent.

  10. If Newdow wins, in whom do we put our trust then?

We could always round up the usual Dem suspects, or we could take one of our own. I nominate Tillman. Don’t laugh, it has a nice ring.

  11. Newdow on the roof

From the Sacramento Bee's review of a one man musical play by controversial atheist Michael Newdow:But [Newdow’s] budding musical career, which he put on display in a one-man show before a sparse audience Tuesday night, may be cut short …

  12. Well, I still think the most delicious spectacle would be for Newdow or some similarly-minded crusader (!) to sue San Francisco for their blatant Catholic cheerleading in having their city named after a saint. The utter confusion and panic on the part of the city’s Board of Supervisors as they try to figure out which PC-shibboleths to honor would be a treat to watch.

  13. Can’t speak to the show, I didn’t see it, but I think his cause is the greatest fight this country will ever see. To answer Black Jack’s question, I would replace In God We Trust with In The Union, or In The Constitution, We Trust. Taking the word God off our money does not mean the government would be taking an atheist stand, but rather an agnostic stand. Agnostics make no claim either way, because they know that such claims cannot be proven. Newdow makes the unprovable claim that there is no god, hence he is an atheist, but he isn’t fighting for the country to become atheist, he wants the government to be agnostic. He is absolutely correct in this fight. Hell, if it was up to me, I’d ban all religions and jail the lot of you, but no worries, I have no ambition to rule over retards.

  14. I give Mike Newdow three thumbs down

  15. And you can’t jail us Mr. Paine, but we can jail you, however, we don’t need to put retards in jail.

    Happy (7922b3)

  16. I agree with Mr.happy you should be in a special jail

  17. Attacking the personality of someone who tells the truth mirrors the baseless vulgar nature of most posters here. DR Newdow loves his child. Her mother has not been scrutinized at all in this sad tale of theocrats villifying a scientific parent.
McCarthyism gave us a 7 trillion dollar deficit.
Tax exemptions for the mega wealth of so called charities is still a well kept secret.
DR Newdow is simply seeking fair play for parents where schools are promoting the lies of anti-secularism.
American Atheists should be proud of the growth & wisdom of Dr Michael Newdow, Esq.
Ignorance is still quite loud here in cyberland of hate against scientists like DR Newdow.
A now sixth grade little girl should be visiting her daddy without bias or condescencion from either parent or family sides.
The government took sides in 1955 when they made the US flag something to pray to, confounding young minds to be cannon fodder in senseless wars.

  18. Nice retort, Mr. Happy and friend. Did you two work together on those responses to my post? It must have taken you a long time to put together such strong and eloquent rhetoric. Larry Carter Center is right when he talks about the level of ignorance in cyber space. Number 17 is an excellent post, please learn from that, Mr. Happy and friend.
