Cindy Sheehan Blames Bush More Than the Iraqi Who Killed Her Son?

I don’t know whether this is authentic or not — but if it is, it’s quite remarkable. It purports to be a reprint of an e-mail from Cindy Sheehan to an Iraqi blogger. It was apparently posted by the blogger on January 26, 2005:

Dear Faiza

Susan put me in touch with you.
My son was killed in Sadr City on 04/04/04. His name was Casey Austin Sheehan. He was killed in the Shi’ite uprising on that day. He was almost 25.

I want to let you know that I am so sorry what our leaders have done to your country. Casey was a peaceful, gentle guy, who joined the Army to protect America and to help people. He didn’t join to be misused by an arrogant administration who are murderers. I don’t blame the Iraqi who killed Casey…I blame Bush and his other followers.

Please keep in touch with me…I think we do need to do peace together. Us Moms in the US need to be in contact and solidarity with you moms in Iraq.

Love and hugs from America
Cindy Sheehan

(Emphasis mine.)

If this this truly authentic — and it is not terribly dissimilar to other rhetoric we have heard from Ms. Sheehan — it is very revealing of where she is coming from. (Via Rob Douth.)

UPDATE: A commenter notes a Friday entry from the National Review’s Media Blog in which Sheehan told reporters in a conference call transcribed here:

The person who killed my son, I have no animosity for that person at all.

The National Review notes that this quote does not appear to have made it into any of the reporters’ stories, saying: “Perhaps that’s because, reading the transcript, it becomes evident that the reporters are on Sheehan’s side.” Quite amazing, yet at the same time, quite predictable.

  1. You’re a little late to this party. See this.

Looks like this is exactly her sentiment.

  2. I think we should start a fund for her to go to Iraq and meet with the “insurgents.” Maybe she could have a nice “Jane Fonda” video opportunity. Or some such.

She’d probably blame Bush in her beg.

  3. Patterico:

Sachi believes that Faiza may be the mother of Raed from Raed In the Middle. Raed is a very radical Shia how utterly hates America and Americans.

Faiza has her own blog: A Family In Baghdad. She has two other children besides Raed: Khalid and Majid. Khalid, who is Sunni, was arrested in Iraq by Iraqi authorities, but Raed (who announced that his brother had been “kidnapped” by the Iraqi police) did not say what the charge was. Khalid is now out, crediting Juan Cole, among others, with securing his release (Khalid also says he will help free Cole when Cole is arrested, in America, one must presume, for reading Khalid’s blog).

Oddly, despite being Shiite, Raed blames America for everything bad that happens in Iraq. It’s not at all surprising that Cindy Sheehan would hook up with this family.

  4. I bet he is turning in his grave. I honor him, but think the mother is worthless. No “on your shield of with it” for this appeaser.

  5. The Cindy Sheehan Interview(s)

Cindy Sheehan has become so media-savvy that she’s doing multiple interviews simultaneously. I’m Sam Seder for The Majority Report. Joining me now here on Air America is Cindy Sheehan, whose son Casey was killed in the illegal invasion of Iraq

  6. With the Iraqis approving a constitution that states that all laws must be consistent with Islam, it seems our mission to Iraq is over. We cannot ask our citizens and military to sacrifice for an Islamist state.

Let them now sort things out for themselves. They are headed for civil war.

For what it is worth, additional reconstruction and security aid would have been a waste.

  7. Now it seems that the constitution is not agreed upon yet. Let’s see what happens (and remember that this is not the first time that drudge went off half cocked). I must remember that.

  8. I am crossing my fingers in hopes that sharia gets largely if not entirely excluded from the Iraqi constitution. Basing it on sharia would be analogous to the Iraqis using their newfound freedom to piss on the grave of every US soldier and every Iraqi who has fought and died to give them that freedom.

I have a very hard time believing all those Iraqis came out on “purple finger day” to see sharia seared into the haunch of the whole country – if that was the case the Sunnis would have been the most enthusiastic voters rather than refusing to participate. This to me smells more like a case of the government putting greater importance on the signing of a document than on the representation of its voters.

I’d say that hopefully if this comes to pass that the US would intervene, but I suspect – and as a generally Republican voter it pains me to say this – that these misplaced priorities may stem from pressure applied by the State Dept that is itself under pressure from the GOP which wants to cut its political tether to Iraq.

    Hope I’m wrong.

  9. This is interesting:

“Regarding Islam and the constitution: it was agreed upon that no laws that are against the widely agreed upon values of Islam can be issued and no laws that are against the values of democracy and human rights can be issued.”

Of course this still isn’t that helpful as it seems more of a way for the constitution to hamstring itself (i.e. theoretically at least this means you can’t pass laws supporting or condemning women’s rights, which would seem to create a legal void to be exploited by local warlords). Still looking for actual wording of the latest document.

  10. The National Review notes that this quote does not appear to have made it into any of the reporters’ stories, saying: “Perhaps that’s because, reading the transcript, it becomes evident that the reporters are on Sheehan’s side.”

In comic books Dave Campbell calls this The Riddler Factor. It’s what allows The Riddler to battle with Batman despite not having any real powers or weapons. Basically, the comic book writer likes The Riddler and makes sure he has enought plot contrivances so that he can keep the character going for 20 pages.

  11. Reading the draft constitution, it strikes me how nonfunctional it is.

For example, our constitution defines its source of authority in the preamble, the structure and powers of government, and then finally the Bill of Rights.

The draft Iraqi constitution is more of a party platform than a workable document. It seems farsical as a governing document.

  12. […] You know who Cindy Sheehan is. From Patterico, I found this. She said she’s not upset with the person who killed her son, but she’s upset with Bush. […]

  14. Cindy Sheehan does NOT blame the Iraqi who killed her son, because we ARE AN OCCUPYING FORCE IN THEIR COUNTRY, and the man who shot her son was protecting his homeland FROM OUR LIES!

Bush and company lied, and half the country was STUPID enough to fall for their lies.

Bush SHOULD be blamed. He should be in jail, along with the rest of his lying administration, and they should be treated to some of their own interrogation techniques that they condone.
