Just read the Peacenik piece in the Times. Thought you might be interested in knowing that MOST of the 300,000+ civilian deaths under Saddam occured while he was our convenient ally of the week. We didn't give a good goddamn about it then... he was enemies with Iran. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right? Just the kind of ASSENINE BS that has sent me and others overseas for the last 50 years, cleaning up behind the political expediencies of the moment. Just so the numbers are correct. We've been buddies with more despots than you can shake a stick at...just so they weren't "commies" or Marxists or whatever.
It wasn't right then and it ain't right now.

I just rode by (and through) Camp Casey a few hours ago and it looks pretty tame. There's probably more Bikers for Bush and cops hanging around than protesters.

I'm from that area originally, but was surprised at how far from Crawford the ranch really is. I hadn't realized it before.

The most interesting insight I could provide you, though, is the one you would expect: the demographic there is overwhelmingly white, middle class, and touristy. These are well-heeled hippies, I assure you.
