One of the Onion Field killers was just returned to prison for heroin possession.

  1. I assume the heading was facetious, but on the off-chance it wasn’t (or the on-chance that some of your readers will miss the irony if it was), isn’t this an equally argument in favor of laws against picking one’s nose, spitting on sidewalks, looking at people funny, or anything else a convicted killer (or anyone else) might be caught doing from time to time?

Or in not parolling cop-killers who should have been exectured anyway?

Urg, Patterico, don’t get the drug-legalization folks worked up.

They’re looney, like moonbats … maybe we should call them drugbats.

  4. X,

There is almost always a tongue-in-cheek tone to whatever I write. That said, if I could legally put Jimmy Lee Smith in prison for spitting on the sidewalk, I probably would. You gotta admit that it’s galling to think of that guy enjoying some smack while Ian Campbell lies dead in the cold ground. Once again, thank you Rose Bird.

Gee, thanks. You’re totally harshing my mellow.

True, but it’s equally galling to think of that guy enjoying anything at all. My first thought in cases like this is to repeal the ex post facto clause, or at least to limit its effects to cases where the new law provides a more severe penalty than existed at the time the crime was committed.

I thought I was talking to the drug-legalization crowd, not X, the King of Snark.

  7. That article was written by an intern. Lets see how long it takes the LA Times to get her to write the story with a liberal slant, i.e. “The perp is a victim”
