Sorry, in this case a former UN worker and a University professor's opinions does not trump the various brides and grooms openly stated reasons for getting married. Even from the sister's quote, you cannot determine if she is commenting on the number of marriges or just the celebrations that follow. If this were happening in any other country where the US was not involved, this would have been a hugely positive human interest story. But here's the Times, always happy to look for the thorns in the bouquet of roses.
