GOP Caves on Filibuster? !
Patterico has more wonderful news (I’m in a foul mood tonight) for the conservatives who gave Republicans a majority in the Senate (a party which does not have a clue how to govern).
The Constitution is merely a pawn in the McCain v Frist ‘08 Swee…

For all the celebration of these “m*****cks”, I noticed that all the news organizations will not name them except McCain and Nelson. Could it be that they fear retribution for the other 5 in their respective elections?

Today’s trivia question: Tom Cruise’s callsign in the movie “Top Gun” was…?
I’m sorry. Couldn’t resist.

Good movie.

Patterico,
As I’ve stated elsewhere on the web, the media fawning over the Brand M’s didn’t exactly help Chirac, Schroeder, Galloway or Kerry in their time, to name a few.
Ben Graham summed up the stock market thusly: in the short run it is a voting machine; in the long run it is a weighing machine. I think this situation is similar. In the short run, shibboleths, disinformation, and posturing matter; in the long run, though, it’s results that count. For proof, see recent history.
Let the media fawn. It no longer matters.

I prefer the term “mutineer” to describe McVain. He will sell his soul, his mother and his party for one more fawning article by the national media.
I loathe the man.

Pat, you just lost my mother as a site reader.
She wants to know, what have *you* got against James Garner?
Comment by Chadster — 5/24/2005 @ 6:36 am
Love him! He did a great job in Iraq, paving the way for Paul Bremer.

Yeah, Ford did make some lousy cars, and the Maverick was one of them!
Comment by GEAH — 5/24/2005 @ 7:52 am
Maverick was a very good movie.

Hey Xrlq, I said that back in 4. Wasn’t talking about Top Gun, sheesh.

I’ve always thought McCain was more of a Pinto, myself.

First, this stinks. There’s no reason to compromise when you’re right and you’re going to win.
Second, if a handful of Democrats were to break rank and join Republicans to do something the Dem leadership opposed, I suspect that many on their side would be calling them something more like ‘renegades’.
Third, the fact that some leftwing bloggers don’t see this as a real victory suggests that the ‘no rule change’ part of the agreement might not prove enforceable. But I think we know that McCain will fight like a rabid hyena to make sure that no amount of Democratic doubledealing is ever enough to justify breaking the agreement, and he’ll get plenty of support from the mainstream media.

You will be able to watch the Maverick McCain, well the movie about him, on TV this week.

MAVERICK ISLAND: A group of maverick Senators meet up to debate the future of our governing choices. Only 7 will come out alive. Outside forces and internal pressures cause the mavericks to vote where no man goes. And no country follows.
Guest appearance by the Dallas Mavericks.
