I try to keep a blogger's eye on the local paper in Raleigh, the News & Observer, in the same way you do the LA Times. The paper here has handled the issue of Owen by ignoring an analysis of who she even his. They keep running articles suggesting the Republicans are trying to pull something shifty, but they won't present Owen in any detail. I imagine they are concerned that if readers knew Owen was a woman and held many moderate positions they would side with the Republicans on the rule change.
