Shearer on Huffington Blog

Filed under: Blogging Matters — Patterico @ 6:13 pm

I hadn’t really gotten too wrapped up in the hype surrounding that Huffington blog — until I saw that Harry Shearer is posting there.

Shearer is very liberal, so don’t expect to agree with anything he says. No matter. He is witty and entertaining. Plus, he invented the term “Dog Trainer” for the L.A. Times. Anything he writes is worth checking out.

His first post is here. And there are posts here and here with “found objects” collected by the huge satellite dish atop his Santa Monica home.

I’ll be putting the Huffington blog thingie on my RSS reader and ignoring all the posts not by Shearer.

  1. Take a look at Larry Gelbart’s reply to an 18-month old Ann Coulter column. Gelbart is the creator of the popular MASH TV series.

Coulter had asserted that Jews were susceptible to political pandering during election years.

Gelbart interpreted this to mean that Jews were panderers. He completely misunderstood Coulter’s point.

In replying to Coulter, Gelbart saw fit to challenge the authenticity of her hair color, the length of her skirts, her overall physical appearance, and finally calls her “Ms. C (for you know what).”

Isn’t it great that Hollywood celebrities are making a substantive contribution to our political conversation?

  2. The whole blog is a cornucopia of absurd thoughts, where few of the “blog” entries even allow comments. Notice how nearly nobody on there has a real job. It’s a bunch of people paid lottery-winning levels doing jobs that take as much talent as performing in a high school play. (I’d be a liberal if I could do that too, come to think of it.)

Gov. Arnold opposes the Nurse Lobby in demanding a law requiring higher nurse/patient ratios, whether they are needed or not, during an extreme state-wide nurse shortage. Check out the idiotic over-reach on this:

Perhaps the cigars he was smoking had some other substance in them, because it was such an idiotic over-reach and served to arouse and unite a tremendous number of working men and women throughout the state.
