Still Nothing on the Alleged Satellite Recording

Today’s L.A. Times story on the Italian report on Sgrena confirms that the paper has no intention of telling its readers about the alleged satellite confirmation of the speed of the car — information that the paper has previously deleted from two Reuters stories.

What’s the reason for the omission? Suspicion of CBS News? Appropriate journalistic skepticism? Partisan politics? Not enough room in the paper? Something else entirely?

I dunno. I’m askin’ — but they’re not sayin’ . . .

UPDATE: I just noticed that the word “slaying” makes a return visit in the sub-head: “Rome agrees with Americans that slaying was accidental, but lays blame on the military.”

  3. Don’t hold your breath for a correction. It has now been over two weeks since Mike Davis lied about the housing market in San Francisco having ‘burst’ – and they still refuse to correct that easily proved lie. Even links in the Times’ own real estate section prove that San Francisco housing prices are hitting record highs each month

I can’t think of a more perfect example of why the mainstream media hates bloggers than this: Los Angeles Times editors have edited a Reuters story to remove critical facts supporting the U.S. position on an important international issue. This…

  6. I don’t think that you can entirely count out the fact that the Pentagon/Washington might be privately backtracking on the satellite angle even though it’s true. WHy would they do this? To protect Italy’s Prime Minister Berlusconi who has been a good freind to Bush and the U.S.

If Italy is proven to be at fault in this mess, the Italian people still won’t give Berlusconi a pass. In fact, it may even work against him since the Italian left wants a scalp no matter what the facts are in this case. Being confronted with proof that they are at fault would just make them angier – they wouldn’t want to face the truth.

I have no proof on this theory, but my gut tells me that Bush might be willing to let the U.S. be the “fall guy” on this in order to take the political heat off of Berlusconi – even if there is iron clad proof of Italian negligence in trying to save a communist trying to undermine democratic reforms in the Middle East.
