With all the reporting on how messed up King/Drew is, why doesn't LA Times also report on how many emergency rooms and clinics have been closed in the region, and why? Perhaps the Governor is taking on the pro-illegals crowd because it is bogus to have hospitals and schools gorged with people who ran into the country through the desert, instead of using an official border crossing.

There's more Wilson envy in today's story Polls Push Governor to the Border. You've got to love how LA Times launches into this outrage magnification every day. To be fair, this unfair analysis of the news is labeled as News Analysis instead of being labeled as actual news.

Bruce Cain, director of the Institute of Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley, said the governor may well be speaking from the heart: Many legal immigrants are resentful of undocumented immigrants.

But Cain added a caveat: Many of Schwarzenegger's top advisors worked for former Gov. Pete Wilson, who rode the issue of illegal immigration in the mid-1990s by campaigning for Proposition 187, which denied state services to illegal immigrants but which was later overturned by courts.

"They have played this card before," Cain said. Focusing on immigration, Cain added, "probably gets people away from obsessing on his defeats. It's possible this is a conscious strategy, but I also believe this is true to his heart."

The Democrats say something, the LA Times repeat it ad-nauseum. There's not a real surprise here, other than the fact that it took them so long to start repeating Democrat phrases.

I notice the Apr 29 online Gov. Praises 'Minuteman' Campaign article has this quote, one of my favorites.

The leader of a Mexican American group called the governor's comments "shameful" and "nothing short of base racism."

"I think we're seeing the real Arnold Schwarzenegger. The mask has now fallen," said Nativo V. Lopez, state national president of the Mexican American Political Assn. "Those of immigrant stock should have no illusions about what his real sentiments and feelings are toward them."

It seems like the LA Times can't get their mind off Pete Wilson - they keep repeating how he was behind Prop-187, which was very offensive to the pro-illegals crowd. And they note over and over again how some of Wilson's aids now work for Arnold.
