John Ziegler’s Spiked Column

Go register your vote as to whether the L.A. Times should have printed John Ziegler’s “Outside the Tent” column.

My vote:

Opinion showed sound judgment by not subjecting print readers to this puffery.

My vote was clear after listening to Ziegler’s incompetent interview of self-promoting Blake juror Roberto Emerick. I thought the Times article on Emerick had made him sound, well . . . incredibly stupid. But compared to Ziegler, he sounded like a genius.

  1. I am no fan of John and Ken and only can handle about 1 segment a week. I think John’s right though. He skips the “facts” and gets the truth. With all the hyperbole and emotion, he evokes a reaction, from his guests and the listener. That reaction engages the listener and often gets the listener to challenge his facts and form one’s own opinion. Compare that to the reader who reads only the LA Times, accepts the LA Times’ spoonfed facts and reaches the exact conclusion the LA Times would want the reader to reach.

Find someone who reads the Times only and ask them what they “think” about the Schiavo case.

  2. I think “John and Ken” John is a different John — Kobylt, if I recall correctly.

  3. Same voice, though: obnoxious East Coast sarcastic.

  4. Not having read the spiked column, I can’t really judge, but I am impressed that the Times noted in print that they had spiked a column.

The reasons given seemed reasonable — until I remembered the kind of stuff they DO print. They had a Ted Rall cartoon last week, for example.

  5. Two Ted Rall cartoons, in fact.

I am talking to the wife about cancelling. The Tom DeLay article may have been the final straw.

When I accused John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou of jumping the shark,*I in no way intended to imply that the schlock who comes after them, John Ziegler, is any better. The only reason I accused one but not the other of shark-jumping is because only has-be…

  7. Patterico’s right, they are two different, albeit similarly annoying Johns. But if you think the L.A. Times’s coverage on the Schiavo case has been bad, try having a remotely civil discussion on the topic with either John K. or John Z.

  8. I think the Ted Rall stuff is to give the Ramirez-bashers something more “mainstream.”

  9. Its interesting to see John Ziegler stumple so quickly. And I was wondering what Phil Hendrie had against him. I suppose now we have at least an inkling.
