An Interesting Insight Into the Mind of Michael Schiavo

Filed under: Schiavo — Patterico @ 2:01 am

I have noted Michael Schiavo’s self-absorption before. When asked by Larry King in October 2003 why Terri Schiavo’s parents wanted to keep her alive, he responded:

Probably just to make my life hell, I guess.

You get a window into this “it’s all about me” attitude once again in Michael Schiavo’s recent statements. He spoke to Larry King again recently, and was quoted in yesterday’s L.A. Times article:

[Michael Schiavo] said he was angry that the government had “just trampled all over my personal life.”

And you see it again in today’s L.A. Times article about the pending federal law to allow Terri’s parents to appeal to the federal courts:

Michael Schiavo, who had sought to have her feeding tube removed, said that Congress was “getting into something they know nothing about.”

“And it’s sad,” he said. “If they can do it to me, they can do it to everyone in this country.”

Note: he didn’t say “If they can do it to her” — but rather “If they can do it to me . . .”

I thought this was supposed to be about Terri Schiavo and her wishes. But Michael Schiavo seems to keep forgetting that.

P.S. I know that some will chastise me for supposedly jumping on an ill-turned phrase (or three) by a supposedly distraught husband. They will point out that anyone can stumble over their words when they are unaccustomed to public speaking. To those people I say: hold your fire. Read this post first. If anything, Michael Schiavo’s private words are worse.

  1. While Schiavo is well-coached by Felos, when pressed even a little, the facade comes off. (“His” private life, the government is interferring with “him’, etc.) I noted the same.

It may not be about money per se, but it is all about Michael.

  2. Absolutley…I also wrote a post exploring Michael’s behaviors…..Excellent blog

  3. Terri Shiavo’s Death Sentence
I have delayed weighing in on the Terri Shiavo case. I wanted to see how things played out and I honestly figured that her life would be spared. It might still be, but activist judges are making it difficult for Terri to remain alive. The whole case…

  4. I’ve never met him, never seen him in person, know practically nothing about him. But I’ll be damned if he doesn’t sound like a classic malignant narcissist to me.

  5. So in your October 2003 post, you cut off any discussion after someone dared ask “Who’s Patricia A. Johnson.” You dismissed them as living in OJ land.

There’s another “affidavit” floating around out there which was supposedly given by a Heidi Law, CNA. It was notarized by Tom Broderson. Who’s Tom Broderson? He’s actually a witness in the case! http://fight4terri.blogspot.com/2005/03/from-tom-broderson-pat-andersons.html

And you say we’re out in OJ land? Come on, there’s not a court in America that would accept that document. If Tom Broderson is one notary in this case, I’m dying to find out who Patricia J. Johnson is.

  6. Chris:

    1. I didn’t cut off discussion on anything. The discussion was taking place on another web site. I said that in the post. Did you read it?

    2. Where’s your evidence that Tom Broderson notarized Heidi Law’s affidavit? My recollection is that Patricia Anderson did.

    3. The role of Tom Broderson (and Patricia Anderson) is described in the post you linked. Did you read it?

I see no problem with his becoming a “witness” after the fact.

You may or may not be in OJ-land, but you seem to have a real reading comprehension problem. If that sounds harsh, well, so does telling me I cut off discussion when I didn’t.

  7. 1. My apologies. You are correct.

    3. So we know who Patricia Anderson is, but who’s Patricia Johnson? As for the affidavits, I would still like to see all of these deposed witnesses go in front of a judge. As near as I can tell, none of them has been produced in court. If they have, I’d like to see the evidence.

As for a reading comprehension problem? I dunno. I’ll leave that to you. Again, my apologies for getting the blogs confused and miscrediting the OJ-Land quote to you. I’ll be better in the future. 🙂

  8. The OJ-land quote was mine. But I didn’t cut off discussion of anything.

I assume Patricia Johnson is a notary. (Yes, I did mix up her last name with that of Anderson. So we both have our reading problems . . .)

I’d like to see them all go before a judge too. Maybe they will, now.

  9. Can we say ‘narcissist’? Oddly enough, abusers often have strong narcissistic tendencies. hmmm… wonder if there is any connection…

  10. […] 8217;s no surprise — it’s part of a pattern. With Michael Schiavo, it’s always about him. P.S. Xrlq wonders why Schiavo&#8 […]
