"But Sipchen doesn’t think that place is on the news pages of The Times, and says that he’d rather see reporters subjugate their own biases and simply report the facts. "
Now his duplicity comes out. The LAT has not"simply report the facts" for over 40 years. They frequently leave out facts they are aware of if they contradict the point they are trying to make in their "news" asrticle. They report what they want us to know and do not report what the dont want us to know.

I think the problem here is fairly obvious: There are those who believe that it's possible to be objective, and there are those who do not. I happen to fall in the second camp. I think objectivity is a big, fat lie. And attempting to create the illusion of objectivity by hiding one's biases is a lie on top of a lie.

I have to agree with Sipchen in principle. I think that if objectivity WERE possible, it would be good for reporters to be objective. But it isn't, so transparency is the only reasonable solution.

I'm disappointed to hear that Sipchen disagrees with what, to me, is blindingly obvious, but I suppose I'm not entirely surprised by it.

I once wrote to an editor who claimed that he had written a completely objective piece. I claimed, in return, that I had found at least twenty instances of liberal, slanted bias in his article and I dared him to make me prove it.
Of course, I never heard from him. Why? Because he thought I couldn't do it? Or, because he thought I could? Or, he just didn't care?
In short, I believe he just didn't have a clue.
