I’m Taking Bets
Do you think the L.A. Times will correct:
1) Its false statement that President Bush called Iraq an “imminent threat” in a State of the Union speech?
2) Its false statement that James Dobson accused SpongeBob SquarePants of being gay?
If so, when?
If not, do you think they will explain why not? And what will their reasoning be?
Let me know what you think.
In the meantime, enjoy the corrections that the paper is running, such as this one concerning the correct spelling of the last name of Jealous Sound guitarist Pedro Benito.
‘ Its false statement that James Dobson accused SpongeBob SquarePants of being gay?’
They should correct this. What Spongebob did was much much worse. He said we should tolerate gays. Shudder! The last thing we want is tolerant children!
actus (ebc508) — 2/7/2005 @ 8:18 am1) no. They’ve already corrected it before.
2) no. The Times never discusses sexual preferences, so it can’t comment on whether SpongeBob SquarePants is gay.
Kevin Murphy (6a7945) — 2/7/2005 @ 8:29 amYes, I’m sure the LA Dog Trainer will correct their mistakes Real Soon Now. Meanwhile, make sure you carry an umbrella, because I have it on good authority that pigs will soon fly.
Stephen M. St. Onge (5d0d4d) — 2/7/2005 @ 8:29 amNo, and no. Publicly, they won’t explain anything. Privately, to anyone who wastes his time contacting the “Readers” Representative, they will nonexplain that no corrections are needed because (1) Bush did in fact say the word “imminent” out loud and (2) James Dobson is a poopyhead.

Regret (22cb76) — 2/7/2005 @ 10:50 amKevin Murphy: when did they correct it before??
Patterico (a4cbc6) — 2/7/2005 @ 12:17 pmAnent the correction they did make, that Pedro Benito’s last name is not “Bonito,” I note that bonito is Japanese dried fish used for flavoring stock. Sometimes they also eat bonito “tataki” style, which means slightly cooked on the outside, raw on the inside.
For enquiring minds that want to know….
