  1. Current count is over 50,000 as I write this, and will probably double by this time tomorrow.

Patterico, The Command Post has a great roundup of ways people can help if you want to promote it.

  2. our thoughts might be with them, but our dollars certainly aren’t…to put the 35 million dollars in context, consider this: To “help” the citizens of Iraq, our government is spending 5.8 BILLION dollars each MONTH. That translates to more than 8 million dollars an hour. Or put another way, the $35 million we have pledged in disaster aid for Southeast Asia is less than the amount the U.S. military spent during the six hours it took on Sunday for the tsunami to cross the Indian Ocean.

  3. Yeah, jillian. Put your money where your mouth is, sell your computer, and donate the cash to the relief effort.

  4. From dawn until sunset on New Year’s Day, 12 Seahawk helicopters off the USS Abraham Lincoln shuttled supplies and advance teams from offshore naval vessels while reconnaissance aircraft brought back stark images of wave-wrecked coastal landscapes and their hungry, traumatized inhabitants.

“They came from all directions, crawling under the craft, knocking on the pilot’s door, pushing to get into the cabin,” said Petty Officer First Class Brennan Zwack. “But when they saw we had no more food inside, they backed away, saying `Thank you, thank you.'”

  5. This whole thing of measuring compassion in dollars is discusting.

While the UN argues how coalitions should be architected, the only real thing that’s important is giving food, water, and shelter to the people who need it now.
