Fake Turkey Correction Issues

Filed under: Dog Trainer — Patterico @ 6:25 am

As promised, the L.A. Times has responded to my complaint and issued the following fake turkey correction:

Joel Stein – Stein’s Dec. 5 column said a photo showed President Bush holding a fake Thanksgiving turkey during his 2003 visit to U.S. troops in Iraq. The turkey he was holding was real. Also, the name of Nicole Richie, co-star of “The Simple Life,” was misspelled as Ritchie.

Thanks to Tim Blair for his unflagging diligence on the vital fake turkey issue.

UPDATE: Thanks to Instapundit for the link.

  1. Is it just me, or are the number of corrections from newspapers and magazines on the increase the last several years? Patterico, great job putting some fire to them. Of course, when these ‘mistakes’ get printed and people read them, the damage is done: who remembers or even bothers to read the corrections?

Assuming that universities aren’t poisoning the pot, this must be one of those techniques a journalist learns on the job: go ahead and make a snide remark, a factually inaccurate statement, because if the heat comes, a ‘correction’ can always be printed: everyone does it.

It would be nice to see a report card of the major newspapers. They would get a grade based solely on the number of mistakes they printed each year.

  3. Of course, as many others have pointed out, whenever the LAT or other MSM organs make errors, they’re ALWAYS in the same direction. When’s the last time a major MSM error was unfavorable to left-liberal views?

  6. So why was the Pres presenting a fake Nichole Richie to Turkish troops back in ‘03? And how did MGM end up taking the SAT with all those erroneous organs?

  9. Who’s the turkey?
One of the most enduring slanders promulgated against President Bush is the one that the turkey he was photographed holding during a Thanksgiving visit to Iraq last year was a fake. L.A. Times columnist Joel Klein thought he would be…
