Proposition 66 Losing
With 100% of the precincts reporting, Proposition 66 is behind as of 6:41 a.m., 46.6% yes to 53.4% no.
As I said last night (in an update to this Angry Clam post), I am cautiously optimistic, though I still worry about the impact of any uncounted absentee ballots.

Congrats to law-abiding and -respecting Californians on defeating Prop 66, and congrats, Patterico, for helping articulate so well the reasons why they were right to do so.

Congrats to a discriminatory system of jail-for-life for non-violent offenders who can’t afford good defense…
I agree that Prop. 66 was too far-reaching, but ye gads, we are in serious need of a 3-Strikes overhaul.

Today’s Register says the absentee votes were counted first, and accounted for the comfortable lead the initiative seemed to have in the early returns. If that’s right, than any still-uncounted absentee ballots probably came in at the last minute, having been cast after the anti-66 media blitz began.
Overall, Prop 66 is down by a “narrow” (according to the Register) seven-point margin. This suggests that among those who voted yesterday, the intiative went down in flames.

The LAT is really unhappy. I just read their cry baby articles on the elections and how Arnold killed some “good” props. The had to insert several digs in several places that the folk he backed for office got crushed. Of course those areas have beem Dem for years so the trend simple continues. On a statewide basis he was very successufel. Including killing prop 66 which was backed by most papers and “mainstream” electronic media. I thank Patterico and the Gov for coming out so strongly on this. God Bless both.

Great work, Patterico. Again, I talked about this issue with family and friends and e-mailed it around because i saw it here first.

PROP 66
has been crushed 53-47. The bad guys stay in jail. Patterico, meanwhile, still frets despite PrestoPundit’s calming words of assurance about Republican absentee ballot voters. Yes, the bad guys…

Sweet, Sweet Victory
Ah — sweet, sweet victory. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. One, two, three, four-more-years, five, six, seven, sixty-six, seventy-two, and zero. And, just because I love thee so much, eleven-to-one. (Actually only four-to-one, but it…
