Patterico's Pontifications

The New York Times has (in a shocking development) come out against Bill Pryor’s recess appointment, in an editorial titled Judicial Activism. I love the quote decrying Pryor’s support for “federalism” — a bizarre concept that the Times describes as

a states’ rights philosophy that seeks to undercut federal rights.

Hmm. I would have said that it seeks to undercut federal power. “Rights” are held by the people, whereas “power” is held by governments.

By the way, that crazy concept of “federalism” is in a crazy document called the “Bill of Rights” (meaning the first ten amendments to the Constitution). That wacky Bill Pryor, upholding the people’s rights as embodied in the Bill of Rights! Yup, we’d better hope he isn’t a judge for long!
