BTW, HijackThis is a legit tool, but not point-and-click. it lists all the places spyware and adware could hook into your system, and lets you select items installed into these locations for removal. However, most of waht you see in the list is legit, part of windows settings, or things like the acrobat or flash IE plugins.

Ad Aware is legit, Spybot S&D is also legit, Hijack This is also legit. Those 3 can clean up this problem (which my 7 year old's friend managed to put on one of our boxes last week) and just about any other. Get those 3 programs and install them, make sure they're updated reasonably frequently, and if you have a problem, boot into safe mode and let them run.

Be careful what you remove with Hijack This (as Phil also said) you may need to go through each thing it lists and try to figure out what it is. Often just entering the name of the program Hijack This flags into Google will tell you if it is something you need to keep.

Be sure to also run an antivirus program in conjunction with the above spyware removal tools, it is helpful in many cases.
